The misunderstanding between actors Lee Sung-min and Shin Se-kyung has been officially resolved!
According to reports on the 16th, Lee Sung-min contacted Shin Se-kyung on the day after the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards (held on the 8th) to apologize for the parts that caused a misunderstanding.
Lee Sung-min took home the Best Supporting Actor award in the film category for ‘I Can’t Help It’. During his speech, he sparked laughter by saying, “I can’t tell you how nervous I was for Yeom Hye-ran,” and adding, “I even cursed inside when Hye-ran didn’t win.” Meanwhile, the Best Supporting Actress award went to Shin Se-kyung for ‘Humint’. Yeom Hye-ran, who played Lee Sung-min’s spouse in ‘I Can’t Help It’, was also a nominee in that category.
There was no awkwardness at the event. An insider shared, “Lee Sung-min’s joke was meant to show his care for his team members rather than focusing on his own win. It was a lighthearted comment, and he didn’t expect it to cause such a stir after the ceremony. Everyone was laughing and the atmosphere was pleasant.” Even Yeom Hye-ran, who presented the award as a previous winner, kept things light by joking, “I’m the Yeom Hye-ran who just lost.”
Despite the joke, some people began questioning Lee Sung-min’s character. However, he is well-known both on and off set for being incredibly kind to his juniors. Insiders agree that while the joke might have sounded excessive to some, it certainly didn’t warrant attacks on his personality.
Lee Sung-min showed a mature side by contacting Shin Se-kyung the day after the ceremony to apologize and have a thorough conversation. While he could have let it slide, he chose to address it. Shin Se-kyung reportedly felt it was a minor issue and was actually touched by the gesture. Additionally, an executive from Lee Sung-min’s agency contacted the CEO of Shin Se-kyung’s agency to express their apologies and clear the air.
