[Exclusive] “Yang Ji-eun does this kind of music?”… A New Challenge with the Meticulously Crafted 2nd Full Album ‘Sunset’ (Interview Part 1)

Singer Yang Ji-eun is returning with her new full-length album ‘Sunset’, capturing her own unique emotions and colors. From the most brilliant moments of youth to the beauty of fading time, this album delicately records various emotional textures of life, showcasing Yang Ji-eun’s musical world and an even wider spectrum.

Releasing on May 13 at 6 PM, Yang Ji-eun’s second full album ‘Sunset’ is a work that compares the many footprints and longings of life to a red-tinted sunset. It covers everything from the poignant emotions of parting to the bright and cheerful rhythms of life, painting Yang Ji-eun’s deep and lyrical musical color.

In an exclusive interview with MHN ahead of the release of ‘Sunset’, Yang Ji-eun was full of excitement and anticipation. Having included songs of various genres and moods, she showed confidence in being ready to present an expanded musical palette and deeper sensibility.

“I think releasing a new album feels like having a new child. It’s truly precious, meaningful, and reassuring. Especially with a full album, the mindset feels different compared to releasing a single. Since fans loved my first full album so much, I think expectations for the second one have grown. I want to reward the anticipation of ‘If the first album was this good, what new side will she show in the second?'”

Since her first full album ‘Picnic’, released in November 2024, received praise for its high quality, solid composition, and for showcasing Yang Ji-eun’s versatile charms, expectations for the second full album ‘Sunset’ have naturally grown.

This album melts in an expanded musical color and deeper emotion by including songs of various genres and moods. At the same time, with new attempts and lyrical emotional lines, she is determined to show her wide musical spectrum.

“Many people think of emotional ballad trot when they think of Yang Ji-eun, but I love that I can melt in various sides of myself when I release a full album. While preparing this, I made up my mind to show the side that fans want to hear and are curious about. So, I tried to organize the tracks from 1 to 11 as diversely as possible so the genres wouldn’t overlap.”

Indeed, the album is richly filled with 11 tracks, including the title track ‘Now a Stranger Who Has Become a Stranger’ and the second title track ‘At the Threshold of the Sunset’, as well as ‘Ten Years Later’, ‘I’m Going Crazy’, ‘Who Cares’, ‘If Loving Was a Sin’, ‘It’s Good, So Good’, ‘Round and Round’, ‘Ihwaryeong Haneuljae’, ‘When the Flower Wind Blows Again’, and ‘Greeting’, promising high satisfaction for music fans.

Yang Ji-eun repeatedly expressed special satisfaction and affection for this album, filled with different colors in both genre and mood. Since each song contains a different narrative and emotional texture, she showed deep attachment to all the tracks.

Notably, during the interview, she naturally sang a cappella to express the emotions and atmosphere of each song. Even in a short moment, she showed intense immersion and delicate emotional lines, making the depth of the album even more tangible.

“Since it’s my second full album, I felt a strong need to do better. I also felt the pressure to satisfy the fans’ expectations. That’s why I put more effort into preparing it. I tried to supplement the parts I felt were lacking in the first full album, and I personally feel very grateful and meaningful that fans have waited for and shown a positive response to the second full album.”

While preparing her second full album, Yang Ji-eun focused on showing a more colorful and new side. Rather than staying within her existing emotional ballad trot image, she worked hard to expand both genre and mood to evoke reactions like “Yang Ji-eun does this kind of music?” Instead of just showing stability within a familiar color, she completed ‘Sunset’ by incorporating various attempts and changes with a mindset to challenge herself further.

The presence of her fandom ‘Miso-jieun’ was a great strength in the process of completing ‘Sunset’. Because there are fans who accompany her musical journey with unchanging love and support, she was able to take on new challenges with greater courage and responsibility.

The fans’ interest and warm reactions, which exceed expectations with every album, became the driving force that makes Yang Ji-eun grow and the reason why she constantly wants to show new sides of herself.

“All of this is thanks to the fans. The reason I can find stability and promote as a singer is ultimately because the fans are there. We’ve become so close now that we can understand each other just by looking at each other’s eyes, and at event venues, we naturally spend time sharing updates like a mini fan meeting.”

“I’m spending truly happy days thanks to the fans, and I’m so happy right now as a singer. Just being able to sing happily while receiving such great love makes me think, ‘There is no better job than this.'”

With that heart, Yang Ji-eun is planning various meetings and touchpoints to breathe closer with her fans. Since her solo concert ‘Heung-handa!’ last year drew passionate love and response, she is preparing various opportunities to build memories directly with fans to celebrate the release of ‘Sunset’ this year. She is working to create special times by broadly promoting meetings, performances, and communication opportunities in various regions to meet more fans.

“Until now, I poured so much energy into the full album work that I didn’t have the leisure to think about other things. But now, I’m always open to things I can do with the fans. I’m planning a fan concert, and my desire to meet more fans directly in various regions has grown. I want to create many times where I can return the love I received through the album via stages and meetings. Please wait a little longer.”
