Model Choi Yeon-soo recently shared the news of her emergency early delivery caused by pregnancy-induced hypertension. However, she has had to step forward once again to clarify the situation following some thoughtless reactions, leaving fans feeling heartbroken for her.
On the 6th, Choi Yeon-soo took to SNS to announce, “I ended up having the baby much sooner than expected.” She explained, “Due to pregnancy-induced hypertension, the date was moved up by a month. The baby grew well, and my condition is generally fine, though my blood pressure remains high.”
Well-known as the daughter of Chef Choi Hyun-seok, Choi Yeon-soo has been active as a model and actress since appearing on Mnet’s ‘Produce 48’. Last year, she received many congratulations after marrying Kim Tae-hyun, a member of the band DickPunks. While her original due date was early June, she ended up meeting her son a month early.
Unfortunately, some online reactions sparked controversy. Certain netizens left comments such as, “I guess babies are born in the 2kg range these days,” and “Was the baby forced out?” While these may have seemed like concerns at first glance, critics pointed out that such expressions treat early birth and C-sections too lightly.

This led Choi Yeon-soo to personally explain the situation in the comments. She revealed, “I was a high-risk mother with blood pressure high enough to potentially cause preeclampsia.” She added, “The amniotic fluid was also low because of the hypertension.” She further emphasized, “This isn’t the case for everyone; mine was a truly urgent situation. My original due date was June 1st.”
Since giving birth, Choi Yeon-soo has shared her recovery process, including the baby’s birth weight in the 2.4kg range and her efforts to express colostrum. Many are expressing sadness that a mother who went through an emergency early birth has to deal with malicious-leaning comments before she has even fully recovered.
Netizens are sending their support, saying things like, “Why does a high-risk mother even have to explain herself?” and “It’s just a relief that the birth went safely. I hope both the mother and baby can focus on recovering their health.”
Since pregnancy-induced hypertension and low amniotic fluid can be dangerous for both the mother and the fetus, there are growing calls for people to show more consideration for the mother’s health and safety rather than making light of early births.
