The American Music Awards (AMA), one of the top three music awards in the US, is gearing up for a fierce competition among several K-pop artists, including BTS!
The ‘American Music Awards 2026’ will take place on May 25 at 8 PM local time (May 26 at 9 AM KST) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
The AMAs are a prestigious ceremony that selects nominees based on a combination of streaming, sales, and radio airplay.
The biggest highlight this year is whether BTS will take home the top prize for ‘Artist of the Year.’ After completing their military hiatus and returning as a full group with their 5th studio album ‘ARIRANG’ on March 20, BTS immediately made their presence known by landing a nomination for ‘Artist of the Year.’
For ‘Artist of the Year,’ BTS will go head-to-head with Bad Bunny, Bruno Mars, Harry Styles, Justin Bieber, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga, Morgan Wallen, Sabrina Carpenter, and Taylor Swift.
In the ‘New Artist of the Year’ category, KATSEYE, the global K-pop girl group launched by HYBE in partnership with Geffen Records, has been nominated. KATSEYE will compete against Alex Warren, Ella Langley, Leon Thomas, Olivia Dean, and Sombr.
‘Golden,’ the OST from the Netflix original animation ‘K-pop Demon Hunters,’ is nominated for ‘Song of the Year.’ Other nominees include Alex Warren’s ‘Ordinary,’ Morgan Wallen’s ‘I’m The Problem,’ and Taylor Swift’s ‘The Fate of Ophelia.’
‘K-pop Demon Hunters’ is also up for ‘Best Soundtrack,’ competing with OSTs from ‘F1 The Movie,’ ‘Hazbin Hotel Season 2,’ ‘Wicked,’ and ‘Wuthering Heights.’ Additionally, ‘Golden’ is nominated for ‘Best Vocal Performance’ and ‘Best Pop Song,’ meaning it is competing in four different categories!
The K-pop specific categories are also expected to be intense. For ‘Best K-pop Male Artist,’ BTS will face off against ATEEZ, ENHYPEN, Stray Kids, and TOMORROW X TOGETHER. Meanwhile, for ‘Best K-pop Female Artist,’ aespa, BLACKPINK, ILLIT, LE SSERAFIM, and TWICE are all nominated.
With so many K-pop artists nominated for the ‘American Music Awards 2026,’ fans are eagerly waiting to see which groups and songs will bring home the victory.
