'Girls Planet 2' is already a hit! Applicants are flooding in for Mnet's next big girl group project

‘Girls Planet 2’ (working title) is already creating a huge buzz as it gears up for a broadcast next year. Since the recruitment announcement on the 1st, applications have been pouring in from those dreaming of becoming the next Kep1er. Notably, the number of applicants in the first ten days has already surpassed the total number of applicants for ‘Boys Planet 2’ over a seven-month period. Furthermore, over 30% of the applicants are from North, Central, and South America, proving the global prestige of K-auditions.

At the KCON JAPAN on-site auditions held from the 8th to the 10th, a surprising scene unfolded as the number of applicants far exceeded expectations, requiring the temporary expansion of the judging area. Photo provided by Mnet

Adding to the excitement, around 130 domestic K-pop agencies have expressed their intention to enter their trainees into ‘Girls Planet 2’.

The production team of ‘Girls Planet 2’ admitted they were even “bewildered” by the overwhelming global response, stating, “Please look forward to the synergy that participants from various cultural backgrounds will create.” This marks the first time Mnet has returned to forming a girl group through the ‘Planet series’ in six years, since ‘Girls Planet 999: Girls Battle’ aired in August 2021. The group born from the series’ start, ‘Girls Planet 999’, was Kep1er.
