The high-energy chemistry between Goo Kyo-hwan, Go Youn-jung, and Han Sun-hwa is totally capturing the hearts of ‘Mo-Ja-Mu-Ssa’ viewers!
The JTBC Saturday-Sunday drama ‘Everyone is Fighting Their Own Worthlessness’ (directed by Cha Young-hoon, written by Park Hae-young, produced by Studio Phoenix, SLL, and Studio Flow, hereafter ‘Mo-Ja-Mu-Ssa’) is sailing smoothly with rising viewership ratings as the immersion and fun increase with every episode.
The 6th episode hit a peak viewership of 3.8% in the Seoul metropolitan area, marking a new personal best (via Nielsen Korea). It has also ranked 2nd in TV drama buzz for three consecutive weeks according to Good Data Corporation’s FUNdex. On top of that, it climbed to 1st place in Netflix’s ‘Today’s Top 10 Series in South Korea’ as of May 5, showing its steady popularity.
In particular, the explosive synergy of the ‘artistic trio’ consisting of film director Hwang Dong-man (Goo Kyo-hwan), planning PD Byun Eun-ah (Go Youn-jung), and top actress Jang Mi-ran (Han Sun-hwa) is delivering a thrill to viewers. Jang Mi-ran was lured by the humor of Park Kyung-se (Oh Jung-se) and starred in his film ‘The Second Sister Without Arms,’ but the result was a box office failure, public ridicule, and acting aftereffects. Due to Park Kyung-se’s superficial directing, she repeated a scene of cutting an arm 42 times, leading to a loss of sensation in her actual left arm. This was the result of method acting that felt like cutting off a real arm. To make matters worse, her perfectionist mother, top actress Oh Jung-hee (Bae Jong-ok), controlled her every move and even criticized her way of speaking, further paralyzing Jang Mi-ran’s psyche.
What finally made her stiff left arm twitch again was Hwang Dong-man’s shout toward Park Kyung-se: “That’s how you write a scenario!” This short but powerful cry gave Jang Mi-ran a thrill, as if someone dead had suddenly woken up. The two became best friends while bonding over their shared dislike of Park Kyung-se. Viewers burst into laughter at the harmless and pleasant chemistry between the two as they chatted and laughed together.
This relationship reached its peak during the wedding song ending in the 5th episode. Hwang Dong-man, who had never proven his value to the world, experienced a heart-fluttering moment of proving his worth by casting top actress Jang Mi-ran to sing at his cousin’s wedding. At the same time, Jang Mi-ran vigorously moved her paralyzed left arm and sang Psy’s ‘Art,’ declaring her liberation from the control of her mother and the gaze of others. This moment, where Hwang Dong-man’s proof of value and Jang Mi-ran’s liberation intersected, provided viewers with a tear-jerking yet thrilling catharsis, creating an all-time great ending.
Additionally, the strange relationship between the two women who share Oh Jung-hee as a mother, biological daughter Byun Eun-ah and stepdaughter Jang Mi-ran, is raising expectations. Previously, when Jang Mi-ran rejected Lee Jun-hwan’s (Shim Hee-seop) scenario, calling it “dirty,” Byun Eun-ah delivered a blunt critique, telling her, “Don’t use your head. Show your animalistic charm.” While Jang Mi-ran was offended by the sharp remark, she was moved by the undeniable truth of it, laying the groundwork for a peculiar relationship. Attention is now focused on what kind of explosive synergy the two will develop.
Meanwhile, ‘Mo-Ja-Mu-Ssa’ airs every Saturday at 10:40 PM and Sunday at 10:30 PM on JTBC.
