Guckkasten member Ha Hyun-woo was absolutely sure he would receive zero votes in the first round, but he got a surprising wake-up call from the imitators.
Ha Hyun-woo appeared as the original singer on the May 12 broadcast of JTBC’s ‘Hidden Singer 8’ Episode 7.
He revealed that he had previously declined the offer to appear on ‘Hidden Singer’, believing that his one-of-a-kind voice didn’t fit the concept of the show.
MC Jun Hyun-moo asked, “Do you still think it’s impossible for the people behind you to sound like you?”
Ha Hyun-woo replied, “Yes. I think the production team probably recruited people who are just incredibly good at singing because there’s no one with a voice like mine. They’ll be great, but they can’t match my tone. I’ve never seen anyone similar to me.”
Jun Hyun-moo noted that many original singers have been eliminated in Season 8. Ha Hyun-woo confidently responded, “That’s them, but I’m different.” The production team added a caption saying, “Confidence that shuts up cheeky Hyun-moo,” which made the panel laugh.
Jun Hyun-moo mentioned that recruiting Ha Hyun-woo wasn’t easy because he’s the ultimate survival show champion, citing his first-ever 9-win streak on MBC’s ‘King of Mask Singer’ and taking first place in his first appearance on MBC’s ‘I Am a Singer 2’. He teased, “‘Hidden Singer 8’ will show you how tough survival programs can be.” Ha Hyun-woo jokingly replied, “I hope so,” landing another blow on Jun Hyun-moo.
When asked if the songs would be performed in the original key, Ha Hyun-woo confirmed, “Everything is in the original key. It’ll probably be hard for the imitators. The songs require power in a high range to really bring out the flavor. I’m so used to it that I could sing them while lying down.”
Song Eun-i joked, “I didn’t see you this way, but your arrogance is truly sky-high,” making Ha Hyun-woo laugh. Meanwhile, Park Wan-kyu praised him as “a rocker who has everything.”
Ha Hyun-woo was so certain of reaching the fourth round that he predicted zero votes for himself in rounds 1 through 3. He said, “Unless people intentionally pick someone who isn’t Ha Hyun-woo even though they think it is him.” Jun Hyun-moo added, “This is legendary overconfidence and legendary arrogance.”
Contrary to his predictions, the imitators threatened Ha Hyun-woo in every round with their exceptional mimicry and vocal skills. In fact, Ha Hyun-woo barely advanced past the first round, missing elimination by only two votes. In the end, Ha Hyun-woo emerged as the final winner with 58 votes.
