Released globally on the 24th of last month, ‘Girigo’ is a unique YA (Young Adult) horror series that blends traditional Korean shamanism with a modern app concept. Right after its release, it climbed to the top of the ‘Korea Top 10’ series category and dominated global charts.
Hyun Woo-seok leads the story as Kang Ha-jun, a top-tier science genius. Known as a certified brain, Kang Ha-jun dives into the system to uncover the truth behind the curse of the wish-granting app ‘Girigo’ and tracks down crucial clues. To bring professionalism to the role, Hyun Woo-seok showed incredible passion by learning coding himself, making his portrayal of a server expert and a cool-headed detective highly convincing.
The relationships between characters are also a major highlight. In particular, the chemistry between him and No Jae-won (Bang-ul), who is the boyfriend of his sister Jeon So-nee (Haet-sal), provided a refreshing break from the tense atmosphere. The way the two evolved from bickering in the beginning to relying on each other during crises earned a great response from viewers.
Since the horror genre has long been a gateway for new talent to become stars, the industry is now keeping a close eye on Hyun Woo-seok’s future steps after his success in ‘Girigo’.
