Following the production team’s official statement, the actors also stepped forward as the faces of the project to take responsibility.
On the 18th, Byeon Woo-seok posted a message on his social media account, stating, “I am writing this with a heavy heart to those who felt uncomfortable and concerned because of the work.”
Byeon Woo-seok apologized, saying, “I lacked consideration for how the historical context and meaning of the work would be perceived by viewers during the filming and acting process.” He added, “Through the words of the viewers, I have come to reflect and repent. I’ve realized once again that as an actor, I need to responsibly examine and consider not only the acting but also the message and context of the work. I will approach my future projects with a more cautious and profound attitude.”
Around the same time, IU also shared a lengthy post on her account to express her apologies. She stated, “My heart is heavy as I feel I have caused great disappointment by not showing a responsible side as a lead actor.”
She further bowed her head in apology, saying, “I reflect without excuse for acting without thinking more deeply about various historical accuracy issues within the drama.” She looked back, adding, “Since this was a work where capturing our unique history and traditional beauty was important, I should have read the script and studied more carefully as an actor.”
