On the 14th, a video featuring Bong Tae-gyu was released on the YouTube channel ‘SPNS TV’. During the appearance, he confessed that he has suffered from evaluations of his appearance and malicious comments for a long time since his debut.
Bong Tae-gyu opened up, saying, “I was originally a person who lived positively and was satisfied with my life. However, after my debut, I kept encountering looks that pointed out my appearance.”
He continued, “At first, I tried to just let it go, but it wasn’t easy as I kept reading the comments. At the time, you could leave comments directly on articles, so I felt the hurt more directly.”
He shared a particularly heartbreaking detail, revealing that his son, Si-ha, also became a target of malicious comments during his appearance on the KBS2 variety show ‘The Return of Superman’. Bong Tae-gyu had received a lot of love when he appeared on the show with Si-ha back in 2018.
Bong Tae-gyu honestly shared his feelings, saying, “Without realizing it, I developed complexes and a sense of inferiority. The more successful my work became, the less I could enjoy it, and I became increasingly sensitive. I wondered why I was so angry, and I found myself feeling irritated even when looking at my mother’s face, and I felt like I was going crazy when I saw a photo of my maternal grandmother. In the end, I realized I cannot deny my own family.”
After the video was released, online reactions poured in, with fans saying, “Evaluating a child’s looks is crossing the line,” “Malicious comments leave lifelong scars,” and “I can understand how difficult it must have been for Bong Tae-gyu.” On the other hand, some netizens offered a more realistic perspective, noting, “It seems like having a celebrity’s family appear on a broadcast is always a double-edged sword.”
Meanwhile, Bong Tae-gyu married photographer Hashishipak in 2015 and has a son, Si-ha, and a daughter, Bon-bi.
