YouTuber Choi Go-gi has opened up about the journey of getting marriage permission from his partner Lee Ju-eun’s family.
On May 9, a video titled “Behind the Scenes of the Broadcast” was uploaded to the YouTube channel ‘Choi Go-gi’s Parenting Channel’. In the video, the couple appeared together to share the stories behind and after their appearance on ‘X’s Private Life’.
The two revealed they had many worries about appearing on the show. Lee Ju-eun shared, “We had been dating for a long time and I was preparing to meet his parents. In the midst of that, the casting offer came in.” Choi Go-gi added, “I didn’t want to appear. I thought I might just be stirring up trouble for no reason.”
They were particularly concerned about Lee Ju-eun, who is not a public figure. Lee Ju-eun explained, “I wasn’t married yet, and I was very worried about Sol-ip. So I asked my mother, and she told me that since what he does is broadcasting, I should help if I can.” She gained strength from her mother’s support, and Choi Go-gi added that these words made him even more determined to marry her.
Afterward, the couple visited Lee Ju-eun’s parents with handwritten letters and gifts. Lee Ju-eun recalled, “It was the first time in my life I had introduced a boyfriend to them. My parents don’t really watch YouTube or TV, so they didn’t know him and we talked without any prejudice.”
Choi Go-gi remembered, “After about 30 minutes of drinking, I felt I had something to say. I had to tell them I have a daughter, so in the middle of a silence, I started by saying, ‘I have something to tell you’.” He confessed, “The meeting ended vaguely. It didn’t feel like I had received permission.”
Lee Ju-eun also shared the complicated atmosphere, saying, “They were flustered and a bit shocked, and my dad was angry. But he wasn’t angry at him; instead, he told him he had worked hard raising a daughter alone for several years.” Choi Go-gi expressed his feelings, saying, “I went there to tell them that, but the reaction was cold. Actually, I went knowing it would be like that.”
Ultimately, they visited the parents again the next day. Choi Go-gi shared, “They showed us the house and gave us their permission. I came home feeling relieved.” He added that he expressed his sincerity, promising to live happily including Sol-ip.
At the end of the video, the couple announced, “In conclusion, we received permission,” and teased that they will continue their marriage preparations.
Meanwhile, Choi Go-gi married YouTuber Yu Kkaet-nip in 2016 and had a daughter, Sol-ip, but they divorced in 2020. Since then, he has been raising his daughter alone and is currently dating Lee Ju-eun with the intention of marrying.
