“I’ll Try to Understand the Risk”… Cha Hak-yeon Opens His Heart to BL Writer Kim Hyang-gi in ‘Absolute Value of Romance’

The Coupang Play series ‘Absolute Value of Romance’ (Written by Lee Min-ju, Directed by Lee Tae-gon and Kim Jun-hyung) has captivated viewers with its emotional rollercoaster of a plot.

In episode 7 of ‘Absolute Value of Romance’, the show kicked off with big laughs as Woo-soo (Cha Hak-yeon) exploded in anger after Ui-ju (Kim Hyang-gi) cheekily swapped his manuscript. But the laughter was short-lived. Under secret pressure from Da-ju (Kim Jae-hyun) to secretly film Woo-soo, who was refusing to be part of a documentary, Ui-ju attempted some stealthy filming, only to be caught red-handed, making the situation go from bad to worse.

During this process, a deep trauma from Woo-soo’s past that made him avoid cameras was revealed. His bitter remark, “Betrayal is a feeling that only comes because I trusted,” left Ui-ju overwhelmed with guilt. However, tension spiked when Ui-ju suddenly collapsed for unknown reasons, prompting a panicked Woo-soo to carry her on his back and rush her to the emergency room.

The highlight of episode 8 was the ‘Emergency Room Disaster.’ Ui-ju poured out her final farewells, mistakenly believing she had an incurable disease, while Woo-soo was left heartbroken and clueless. But viewers burst into laughter when the absurd diagnosis results were finally revealed. Kim Hyang-gi’s desperate struggle, calling for a school transfer after creating the worst ‘dark history’ of her life, combined with Cha Hak-yeon’s comedic performance as his soul practically left his body in disbelief, created a legendary scene worthy of ‘Lovely Todd.’

The evolving relationship between the two, strengthened through these crises, is also drawing attention. Woo-soo encouraged Ui-ju to write the story she truly wanted to tell, rather than just something for review, offering some tsundere-style support by saying, “I’ll try to understand the risk this time.”

As they begin to understand each other’s worlds, anticipation is building for what changes lie ahead for the pair.
