“I’m Still Angry!” Sa Mi-ja Reveals How Jeon Won-ju Almost Got Her Fired

During the broadcast, Lee Soo-geun introduced Sa Mi-ja as part of the first class of voice actors at Dong-a Broadcasting in 1963. Recalling those days, Sa Mi-ja mentioned that voice actors were far more popular than actors back then, as radio was more widespread than TV.

She also talked about the atmosphere at the audition. Sa Mi-ja shared that applicants lined up for two to three rows around the Gwanghwamun broadcasting station, surprising the cast by revealing she was already a mother at the time.

Kim Young-ok explained that the hiring condition back then was for unmarried women. Sa Mi-ja laughed, saying, “The announcement stated only unmarried people could apply, but I didn’t see it properly. Even if I had, I probably would have ignored it.”

When Kim Shin-young asked, “I heard you almost got fired because of Jeon Won-ju?” Sa Mi-ja expressed her emotions, saying, “I still get so angry when I talk about that.”

According to Sa Mi-ja, she had been working while keeping the fact that she had a child a secret. However, one day, her mother brought the baby to the broadcasting station for breastfeeding. She explained, “I was hurriedly breastfeeding my child, and Jeon Won-ju happened to see that scene.”

She continued, “From Jeon Won-ju’s perspective, she thought I was unmarried, so she must have been shocked to see me breastfeeding. Afterward, she told other people, ‘Mija is breastfeeding a baby here.'”

Consequently, Sa Mi-ja was called in by the PD to explain the situation. Fortunately, the production team didn’t make it an issue, allowing her to continue her activities.

When Kang Ho-dong asked if she had since reconciled with Jeon Won-ju, Sa Mi-ja gave a firm “No,” which brought laughter to the set.

Sa Mi-ja also shared an anecdote from when they appeared in a drama together. She said, “I played the mistress of the house, and Jeon Won-ju played a helper. I made an NG during a scene where I was carrying a heavy table.” Hearing this, Kim Young-ok added, “That was a great revenge.”
