Kim Do-yeon, invited to the Cannes Film Festival for the movie ‘Dora’, stole the spotlight with her confident presence at her first-ever overseas red carpet event.
Director Jung Ju-ri’s new film ‘Dora’ was invited to the Directors’ Fortnight of the 79th Cannes Film Festival. Following the world premiere on May 17 (local time), the team held a red carpet event on the night of May 18 near the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France, drawing significant attention. Director Jung Ju-ri, along with actors Kim Do-yeon and Sakura Ando, attended the event.
The red carpet event on the 18th was an unusual occurrence for a film invited to the Directors’ Fortnight, highlighting the high expectations and interest in the work. Director Jung Ju-ri has had all her directorial works (‘Do-hee’, ‘Next Sohee’, and ‘Dora’) invited to Cannes, and Sakura Ando also shares a long history with the festival through the Palme d’Or winner ‘Shoplifters’ and the Best Screenplay winner ‘Monster’.
This was Kim Do-yeon’s first visit to the Cannes Film Festival, marking both her first world premiere and first red carpet experience. However, she didn’t let the nerves get to her! Appearing in a stunning black tube top dress, she looked completely at ease, enjoying the moment despite the barrage of flashes from photographers worldwide. While this is her first international stage as an actress, her experience performing on massive stages during her time with I.O.I seems to have served her well.
‘Dora’ tells the story of a family who leaves Seoul for a summer beach villa, where Dora, who suffers from an unknown illness, discovers love for the first time, causing everything to slowly shift. Kim Do-yeon took on the title role of ‘Dora’, delivering a deep and emotional performance. She was even moved to tears by the overwhelming applause during the first premiere screening.
After successfully completing its official schedule at the Cannes Film Festival, ‘Dora’ will be released in Korean theaters in the second half of this year.
