Director Yoo In-sik of ‘Wonderfuls’ has stated that it is up to the viewers to judge the situation regarding singer and actor Cha Eun-woo’s tax evasion controversy.
On the 15th, we met Director Yoo In-sik, who helmed the Netflix series ‘Wonderfuls,’ at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Seoul. ‘Wonderfuls’ is a comic adventure series set at the end of the century in 1999, following a group of local misfits who accidentally gain superpowers and struggle to save the world from villains threatening peace. The series stars Park Eun-bin, Cha Eun-woo, Choi Dae-hoon, Lim Sung-jae, and Kim Hae-sook.

Cha Eun-woo takes on the role of Lee Un-jeong, a mysterious civil servant in Haeseong City who possesses psychokinetic powers. Director Yoo In-sik shared, “The mystery surrounding the character is the driving force that carries the early part of the story. Cha Eun-woo was the perfect actor for that image, which is why I reached out to him.”
While filming was completed successfully, the controversy regarding Cha Eun-woo’s tax evasion surfaced during the final editing stages of the drama. Following the controversy, Cha Eun-woo paid 13 billion won in additional taxes. Regarding the lead actor’s situation, Director Yoo admitted, “It would be a lie to say I wasn’t flustered,” but added, “I did not reduce Cha Eun-woo’s screen time. As a director, I prioritized the quality and completion of the work above all else.” He expressed his conviction, saying, “I want the viewers to judge whether that decision was appropriate. It was the best decision I could make as a director.”
‘Wonderfuls’ was released on Netflix on the 15th.
