Singer Jang Hyun-seung has finally apologized to the public and his fans after landing in hot water for using so-called “Ilbe” terminology.
On the 22nd, Jang Hyun-seung posted a lengthy apology letter via a fan communication platform.
In the post, he expressed his regrets, stating, “I am sorry for causing discomfort and disappointment due to expressions stemming from my carelessness and lack of awareness during our communication last night, as well as for the attitude I showed afterward.”
The situation sparked when Jang Hyun-seung used the term ‘Ang-gi-mo-tti’ while chatting with fans. The phrase is known as a meme primarily used within far-right online communities. When fans voiced their concerns about the term, Jang Hyun-seung initially added fuel to the fire by telling them not to “overinterpret” the situation.
As criticism intensified, Jang Hyun-seung admitted that his response had been complacent. He reflected on his behavior, saying, “I used the expression rashly without fully realizing how it could be used or perceived. Regardless of my intention, I should have been more cautious, and I am sorry. I also took the concerns regarding the remark too lightly, and I am deeply reflecting on the fact that I insisted on my own position instead of admitting my mistake.”
He concluded his apology by promising to be more mindful and demonstrate a responsible attitude in his future communications.
Having debuted in 2009 as a member of the group BEAST, Jang Hyun-seung left the team in 2016 and has since been active as a solo artist.
