The mystery thriller ‘Pig Sty,’ starring actors Jang Ki-yong and Cha Seung-won, has been unable to secure a broadcast slot for two years.
According to a report by TenAsia on the 8th, filming for ‘Pig Sty’ was completed around January of last year. While it was originally planned for an immediate OTT release, the scheduling fell through. It has been one year and four months since filming ended, yet the project still hasn’t found a platform.
As the release remains uncertain, the production team intends to put more effort into post-production, including CG, to further enhance the quality of the work. Word has it that they believe a release this year is unlikely and are now aiming for next year.
Industry insiders believe it is unusual for a project to face such delays given the involvement of top-tier actors like Jang Ki-yong and Cha Seung-won. Some speculate that a combination of factors, such as the expected profitability relative to production costs and low projections for overseas rights sales, may be contributing to the difficulties.
‘Pig Sty’ is a mystery thriller about Jin-woo (played by Jang Ki-yong), who crash-lands on a deserted island with no memory and desperately tries to recover his past to survive a strange family. Along with Jang Ki-yong, the cast includes Cha Seung-won, Park Hee-soon, Roh Jeong-eui, and Kim Dae-myung. The project also garnered attention with a special appearance by Shin Ha-kyun.
The series is based on a webtoon of the same name by authors Kim Kan-bi and Chun Bum-sik, who also wrote ‘Sweet Home.’ It is directed and written by Kim Sang-man, who helmed the Netflix film ‘Uprising,’ produced by director Park Chan-wook.
