Jessica Returns to Korean TV After 12 Years! Will She Mention Girls' Generation?

Jessica (Jung Soo-yeon), formerly of Girls’ Generation, is set to appear in Episode 9 of Coupang Play’s comedy show “SNL Korea Season 8” on the 23rd. This marks her first appearance on a domestic variety show in a whopping 12 years since leaving Girls’ Generation.

Coupang Play announced that singer Krystal will be the host for the episode airing on the 23rd, with her older sister Jessica making a surprise appearance. The two sisters, known for their polar opposite personalities, will team up to complete the “Jung Sisters’ two-shot.”

Jessica left Girls’ Generation in September 2014. At the time, she claimed, “I was notified by the company and the other eight members that I am no longer a member of Girls’ Generation as of today.”

SM Entertainment also announced her departure, stating, “Amidst conflicting priorities and interests regarding Girls’ Generation’s activities, Jessica’s start of a fashion-related business led to a situation where the team could no longer be maintained.”

Marriage rumors also surfaced. She was linked to Tyler Kwon, a Korean-American businessman known as the actual operator of her fashion brand Blanc & Eclair, but Jessica personally denied this, stating she had “no plans to marry.”

The friction with Girls’ Generation extended beyond the stage. When Jessica published her English novel “Bright” in August 2022, rumors of her “sniping” Girls’ Generation emerged, as the plot featured a member named Rachel from a nine-member girl group who is ousted after conflicts during a fashion business venture.

Later, Jessica made a surprise appearance on Mango TV’s “Sisters Who Make Waves” Season 3. In this survival show where female celebrities over 30 compete to re-debut in a five-member group, Jessica finished in 2nd place and joined the final lineup.

Gillian Chung, formerly of Twins and known as “Tyler Kwon’s ex-girlfriend,” also placed 5th in the same debut group, sparking significant buzz in both Korea and China.

“Sisters Who Make Waves 3” was followed by Jessica continuing her entertainment activities in the Greater China region. She appeared in Mango TV’s new variety show “Bad Band Beach” and served as a mentor in a BJ cultivation program. This led to some speculation that she had given up on Korean activities to settle in China.
