Director Yeon Sang Ho and actors Koo Kyo Hwan, Ji Chang Wook, Shin Hyun Bin, and Kim Shin Rok have been invited to the Midnight Screening section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival, with the screening set for the 15th.

Distributor Showbox announced on the 8th that “Director Yeon Sang Ho and actors Jun Ji Hyun, Koo Kyo Hwan, Ji Chang Wook, Shin Hyun Bin, and Kim Shin Rok will attend the 79th Cannes Film Festival,” while sharing the thoughts of the actors who will be gracing Cannes for the first time with this work.
The team is scheduled to attend the red carpet and the official Midnight Screening on the 15th at 12:30 AM (local time) at the Lumière Grand Theatre.
‘Swarm’ is a film depicting the desperate struggle of survivors isolated inside a building locked down due to a mysterious infection outbreak, as they face infected beings that evolve in unpredictable ways. It is the latest work from Director Yeon Sang Ho, who set a milestone for the K-zombie genre with ‘Train to Busan’ and showcased the peak of dystopian worlds in Netflix’s ‘Hellbound’.
With this, Director Yeon returns to the Cannes Film Festival once again, following his first invitation to the Director’s Fortnight in 2012 for ‘The King of Pigs’ (the first Korean feature-length animation to be invited), as well as ‘Train to Busan’ in 2016 and ‘Peninsula’ in 2020.

Koo Kyo Hwan shared, “I’m curious about how our film will resonate with local audiences across the distance of time and space. I want to fully enjoy those precious moments while deeply connecting with the audience in Cannes, a place full of passion for cinema.” Ji Chang Wook added, “I will do my best to promote the film so that the hard work of not only the actors but all the staff who dedicated themselves to the project can shine brightly on the global stage.”
Additionally, Shin Hyun Bin expressed, “The first meeting with the audience is always fluttering and nerve-wracking, so I’m even more excited that it’s starting at the Cannes Film Festival. I hope you look forward to the meeting with Korean audiences that will follow.” Kim Shin Rok shared her overwhelming emotions, saying, “I am happy and honored to be part of the world premiere of ‘Swarm’ in the home of cinema. I hope ‘Swarm’ leaves a deep impression on the filmmakers from all over the world gathered in Cannes.”
‘Swarm’ will be released on the 21st after its first reveal at the 79th Cannes Film Festival.
