Kang Ha-kyung Steals the Spotlight with Irresistible Charm and Hilarious Sass in 'Becoming a Legend of the Cooking Soldier'

Actor Kang Ha-kyung is radiating an irresistible and unique charm in ‘Becoming a Legend of the Cooking Soldier’.

In the first two episodes of the TVING original ‘Becoming a Legend of the Cooking Soldier’ (written by Choi Ryong, directed by Jo Nam-hyung) aired on the 11th and 12th, Kang Ha-kyung played Corporal Kim Kwan-cheol, the power player of Gangrim Outpost and head of the 2nd living quarters. He seamlessly switched between relentless sharp-tongued remarks and sly comic acting.

In the premiere, Kim Kwan-cheol created plenty of laughs with his contrasting chemistry, constantly bickering with Sergeant Yoon Dong-hyun (played by Lee Hong-nae). Upon seeing mashed braised potatoes during meal distribution, he delivered a blunt “fact attack,” asking, “Are these potatoes, or were they potatoes? Anyone seeing this would think someone just chewed them and spat them out.” He also showed his status as the outpost’s power player by intimidating new recruit Kang Seong-jae, asking, “Did you come here not knowing how tough military life is?”

Kang Ha-kyung perfected the character of Kim Kwan-cheol, who is annoying yet lovable, through his sly performance. He added humor through his natural acting, even while roasting Yoon Dong-hyun’s cooking by saying, “This isn’t a birthday meal; it’s a fatal injury if you eat it.” He also caused an explosion of laughter in an imaginary scene where he screams for his life after being hit by a “sausage bomb” while eating stir-fried sausages. Kang Ha-kyung truly showcased his comic talent through vivid expressions and gestures.

Meanwhile, Kim Kwan-cheol teased Yoon Dong-hyun with the news that Company Commander Hwang Seok-ho (played by Lee Sang-yi) was taking Kang Seong-jae to TOD. He then warned the soldiers who were unusually enjoying the bean sprout soup, saying, “I hate it most in the world when people play around with food.” However, after tasting the soup himself, he provided another twist and a laugh by snatching a tray and devouring it. Kang Ha-kyung added to the character’s charm by wittily portraying Kim Kwan-cheol barely regaining his senses with a bean sprout still in his mouth.
