Kangnam revealed that the best part about becoming a naturalized Korean citizen is being able to get tax refunds in Japan!

In the May 3 broadcast of SBS’s ‘My Little Old Boy,’ singer and entertainer Kangnam made an appearance.

Talking about his journey to becoming a full Korean citizen, Kangnam shared that the naturalization test was incredibly difficult. He admitted, “The test was so hard. I couldn’t afford to fail six times, and I finally passed on my sixth attempt.” He even gave the ‘Mo-vengers’ an example of a question about Korea’s four major holidays.

While the ‘Mo-vengers’ could name Seollal, Chuseok, and Dano, they struggled with the last one. Kangnam quickly answered, “Seollal, Chuseok, Dano, and Hansik,” explaining that he had to study hard because of such tricky questions.

Shin Dong-yup joked that Kangnam picked a question even they wouldn’t know and asked if he is still studying Korean. Kangnam replied that he is, though he still finds some parts confusing, noting that Japanese has the ‘o’ sound but lacks the ‘eo’ sound. He brought laughter to the set with his pronunciation mistakes on words like ‘saeu-jeot’ (salted shrimp) and ‘jeot-garak’ (chopsticks).

When Seo Jang-hoon asked if there were any perks to naturalizing, Kangnam enthusiastically replied, “I get tax refunds at Don Quijote! It’s about 10%, and that’s a huge deal!” A baffled Seo Jang-hoon questioned why he’d be happy about getting tax refunds in Japan after having lived there as a citizen, but Kangnam jokingly insisted that 10% is a massive amount.
