On the May 11th episode of TV Chosun’s ‘Lovers of Joseon’, Kim Guk-jin and Professor Park Kyung-bae, the husband of singer Insoon, faced off in a high-stakes golf match for their pride. Filmed in Seosan, Chungcheongnam-do, the episode kicked off with intense psychological warfare and realistic couple banter that left everyone laughing.
Professor Park Kyung-bae showed his nerves even before the match. He confessed, “I felt a lot of pressure because my neighbors and students told me to come back as the winner.” When Kim Guk-jin and Professor Park Kyung-bae appeared, they caught everyone’s attention for looking like doppelgängers. Insoon joked with Kim Guk-jin, “Sein’s dad, where have you been?” while Kang Su-ji joined in the roleplay.
Kang Su-ji gave Kim Guk-jin an awkward “Good morning” greeting, which caused a laugh since Kim Guk-jin had been away from home for two days for a regional shoot. When the production team asked Kim Guk-jin if he had practiced that morning, he flusteredly replied, “I don’t usually practice.” Meanwhile, when asked if Professor Park had practiced, Kang Su-ji quipped, “Why would a professor need to practice?” and Insoon revealed, “He took calming pills before coming,” sending the set into fits of laughter.
Kim Guk-jin dominated the atmosphere with his confident remarks. He boasted, “For your information, everyone who plays golf with me takes calming pills,” and added, “Whether I win or lose is decided by me, not the opponent,” earning him some playful boos. He then showcased his signature teasing style, telling Professor Park, “Professor, you look like a hamster. I feel like you’d eat things like corn like this.”
The couples also exposed their husbands’ obsession with golf. Insoon lamented, “My husband loses his mind over golf until autumn,” and Kang Su-ji expressed her frustration, saying, “He wakes up at 5 AM to go play golf. Sometimes he plays twice a day.” Insoon agreed, adding, “My husband leaves at 6 AM.”
Seeing Insoon’s couple offering a prayer before the meal, Kim Guk-jin asked, “Do you go to church?” When they replied they attend a Catholic church, he joked, “You know that even God can’t help on the golf field, right?” causing another burst of laughter.
Meanwhile, Professor Park Kyung-bae revealed that he passed the professional golfer exam in 2011 at the late age of 51. He earned his pro qualification after studying golf abroad and several attempts. On the other hand, Kim Guk-jin surprised everyone by revealing he failed the test a whopping 15 times.
For the match, Kim Guk-jin and Kang Su-ji formed ‘Team Chihuahua’, while Insoon and Park Kyung-bae became ‘Team Hamster’. During the game, Professor Park showered Insoon with nagging when Kang Su-ji performed better than expected and Insoon struggled. Kim Guk-jin won the subsequent putting match and repeatedly teased him, saying, “Mine went in, but yours is over here,” drawing boos from the panels. However, Professor Park showed his grace, saying, “What can I do if the opponent is just better?” The final showdown for their pride will continue in next week’s broadcast.
