Kim Jaehwan Praises

Following [X’s Interview ①], singer Kim Jaehwan continues to create great synergy with his fellow Wanna One members.

Kim Jaehwan recently released the digital single ‘I’ll Come Pick You Up Now’ and is continuing his first comeback activities since his military discharge. In a recent meeting with Xports News, he looked back on his early debut days, saying, “I debuted with Wanna One after participating in the competition program ‘Produce 101.’ Back then, I put a lot of tension into my performances, and my greed and ambition were huge.”

He emphasized, “Listening back now, some of my singing techniques were a bit excessive. I sometimes wonder how it would have sounded if I had sung more simply and relaxed, but I know that reflected my mindset at the time. I think my passionate desire to do better was revealed in my voice.”

Explaining his evolved singing style, he said, “By acknowledging and accepting my past self, I’ve actually become more hardworking and mature. I started practicing to create a more pleasant voice. While I used to focus on just singing ‘better,’ I now sing in a way that allows listeners to feel more comfortable.”

The passing of time has changed not only Kim Jaehwan’s singing style but also his mindset.

He added, “The heat of competition has cooled down a lot now. I don’t feel the need to try and be ‘hotter’ than the younger juniors. I’ve decided that the time for appearing greedy or ambitious on variety shows has passed. Now, having a heart of consideration and concession feels more comfortable.”

Additionally, Kim Jaehwan is making a comeback at the same time as Park Jihoon, his former Wanna One teammate. While some might see Park Jihoon as a daunting rival after becoming a “10-million viewer actor” through the movie ‘The Man Living with the King,’ Kim Jaehwan actually welcomed it.

Kim Jaehwan shared his conversation with Park Jihoon, saying, “I told Jihoon, ‘You are our pride.’ Thanks to him, the Wanna One reunion was promoted more, and the buzz grew even larger. I’m always grateful. I also told him to take care of his health while staying busy with his activities.”

He continued, “Our album release dates naturally overlapped, so we can promote on music shows together. Since I don’t know many people at music shows these days, I felt relieved that I could spend time with Jihoon.”
