Actor Kim Seon-ho is set to star in the new drama ‘The Assemblyman Protects’.
Scheduled to air on tvN, ‘The Assemblyman Protects’ is a “soul alliance project” where a National Assembly member, Goo Young-jin (played by Kim Yun-seok), who returns to the past as a ghost, and a 9th-grade civil servant, Cha Jae-rim (played by Kim Seon-ho), protect each other to carve out their own destinies. The series is based on a popular web novel of the same name.
Kim Yun-seok will take on the role of Goo Young-jin, a National Assembly member seeking revenge after returning as a ghost. As a six-term lawmaker, he is a man who believes politics is about calculation rather than common sense, and design rather than conviction. Once the architect of the political scene and at the center of power, Goo Young-jin meets his end after becoming entangled in a corruption scandal. After returning to the past as a ghost, he teams up with Cha Jae-rim to strive for a return to the center of politics. Kim Yun-seok shared, “I am thrilled to work with such wonderful actors and staff. I am happy to have found a great project, and I will give it my all to leave an unforgettable impression on the viewers.”
Kim Seon-ho transforms into Cha Jae-rim, a 9th-grade civil servant who gets lured into the political world by Goo Young-jin. Cha Jae-rim is a youth who simply aims to live an ordinary life, enduring each day without greed. However, unexpected changes arrive in his life when the “ghost politician” Goo Young-jin appears. Kim Seon-ho stated, “It is a true honor to be part of such a great project with actors I respect. I enjoyed the original web novel, and the drama script is also exciting. The atmosphere on set is great, so I am already looking forward to how the work turns out. I will prepare diligently, so please look forward to it.”
Meanwhile, Kim Seon-ho was embroiled in a tax evasion controversy earlier this year. At the time, his agency, Fantagio, explained, “Kim Seon-ho established a corporation in January 2024 for his acting activities and theater production,” adding, “The corporation is currently undergoing the process of closing down.”
