Kim Young-ok Opens Up About Her Paralyzed Grandson, Sharing Emotional Moment While Watching MONSTA X

Actor Kim Young-ok shared a touching story about her grandson, which brought her to tears.

On the 16th, a video titled “Rap Teacher Joohoney and Halminem Grandma Young-ok’s Fire-Attribute Grandson-Grandma Chemistry” was uploaded to MONSTA X member Joohoney’s YouTube channel, ‘Lee Jooheon’.

Joohoney invited Kim Young-ok to his studio and treated her to a feast. The two have maintained a close bond for 10 years since appearing together on the 2016 JTBC show ‘Hiphop Nation’.

The pair enjoyed some wine together. Kim Young-ok mentioned, “I don’t usually drink much, but they say a little bit like this is good for your health. Actually, I’d prefer a strong drink over wine. I think I drink for the feeling of getting tipsy.” She reflected on her life, adding, “There were times I wished the tipsy feeling wouldn’t fade. I still feel that way when I drink. I really hate waking up and returning to my sober self. Now, everything has become numb, and I am grateful for everything.”

Joohoney recalled a moment from a MONSTA X concert, saying, “Grandma cried when she came to see our performance.” Kim Young-ok replied, “It was wondrous. I know how hard the members worked. When they were rookies, I felt sorry for them, but seeing them succeed was so moving. I burst into tears without realizing it.” She added, “It also reminded me of my grandson who cannot run. That’s how I felt.” It seems that seeing the MONSTA X members, who are around the same age as her grandson, brought back heavy emotions.

Kim Young-ok’s grandson was diagnosed with lower-body paralysis after being hit by a drunk driver without a license in 2015. On the 2024 Channel A show ‘Golden Counseling Center’, she revealed she has been caring for him for eight years, stating, “I really resent the driver. They hit a perfectly healthy child while intoxicated in a stolen car. He almost died.” It is known that Kim Young-ok took over the care of her grandson after her daughter’s health deteriorated due to long-term caregiving.
