KOMCA Makes History! First-Ever Overseas University Partnership Signed with Oikos University in the US

The Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA) has signed its very first partnership agreement with an overseas university!

KOMCA (Chairman Lee Si-ha) announced that it has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Oikos University in the United States to expand educational opportunities for music copyright holders and foster global music talent.

The signing ceremony took place on the 20th, attended by KOMCA Chairman Lee Si-ha, Oikos University President Kim Jong-in, and Global Study Center Dean Park Heung-sik, along with other officials from both institutions.

Located in Oakland, California, Oikos University is a four-year private comprehensive university accredited for both online (Distance Education) and offline courses. Since its founding in 2004, it has focused on training professionals with bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs in theology, music, business, oriental medicine, and the arts, adding a Ph.D. program in 2024. In particular, its School of Music offers Bachelor, Master, and Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degrees, focusing on practical education in performance, composition, worship music, and performance music to develop global music leaders.

Through this agreement, the two organizations will pursue several initiatives: tuition discounts and expanded educational support for KOMCA members entering Oikos University, discounts on trust contract application fees for Oikos University music students applying to KOMCA, mutual cooperation and promotion to enhance the status of both institutions, and joint efforts for the development of music and culture.

This partnership provides a foundation for KOMCA members to expand their academic and creative capabilities through professional music courses at an overseas higher education institution. Meanwhile, music majors at Oikos University are expected to gain valuable insights into the copyright trust management system and the importance of protecting creators’ rights.

KOMCA Chairman Lee Si-ha stated, “This agreement is a meaningful step in expanding the value of Korean music copyright into overseas educational settings. Together with Oikos University, we will nurture global creative talent to lead the future music industry and actively cooperate to protect the rights and interests of Korean musicians abroad.”

Oikos University President Kim Jong-in responded, “It is deeply meaningful to collaborate with KOMCA, a trusted leader in the global music copyright field. I hope this agreement serves as a strong stepping stone for our students to protect their rights as professional musicians and fully showcase their creative potential on the global stage.”

Starting with this agreement, KOMCA plans to further broaden its cooperation channels with overseas music education institutions and expand copyright education and membership linkage programs for music students both domestically and internationally.

As the first-ever MOU between KOMCA and an overseas university, this partnership marks a new beginning for providing overseas educational support to its members.
