Lee Kyung-kyu is bringing the heat on ‘Boss in the Mirror,’ telling Nam Hyun-jong to “resign” if he fails during the World Cup!
KBS 2TV’s ‘Boss in the Mirror’ is a self-reflection program where Korean bosses try to see things from their employees’ perspectives to create a better workplace. The show continues its dominant run, recording a peak viewership of 5.6% and ranking first in its time slot for 205 consecutive weeks (according to Nielsen Korea).
In the episode airing May 17, Lee Kyung-kyu, the 65-year-old “Godfather of Variety” who has covered every World Cup since 2002, passes on his expert broadcasting tips to Nam Hyun-jong, who was selected as the main caster for the ‘2026 North America World Cup’ at the young age of 32.
Lee Kyung-kyu kicks off a special training session with a chilling command: “If you mess up the World Cup, resign and leave.” After a brief moment of shock, Nam Hyun-jong firms up his resolve, stating, “I will approach this with the mindset that this is my first and last chance.” Lee Kyung-kyu encourages him, saying, “This is your opportunity. If you do well, your career will skyrocket,” before surprising him with a key tip: “You have to catch the wind.” He explained that a caster must know how to push and pull the tension through their commentary, breathing with the crowd during the most intense moments, such as right before a goal. Lee Kyung-kyu also shared realistic advice from his decades of experience, telling him to “put more emotion into it” and noting that “no one can beat someone who truly loves football.” Nam Hyun-jong seemed to have a major realization, nodding along throughout.
Then, Lee Kyung-kyu calls in Jun Hyun-moo, saying, “There’s someone who can help Hyun-jong.” Showing his support as a senior, Lee Kyung-kyu tells Jun Hyun-moo, “Hyun-moo, come and do the broadcast this time too. Help your junior, Hyun-jong.”
The episode airs at 4:40 PM.
