Lee Sang-yi Jokes His

Actor Lee Sang-yi has sparked curiosity by revealing that the character and setting of his new project are “completely different” from his own military experience.

During the press conference for the TVING original series ‘Becoming a Legend Cook Soldier’ (hereafter ‘Cook Soldier’) held on the 6th, Lee Sang-yi shared a funny behind-the-scenes story. “I’m only making a special appearance, so I didn’t expect to be doing salutes and hearts at the press conference,” he joked, referring to how his role expanded.

He caused a burst of laughter when he explained, “I served as a conscripted policeman. As a promotional soldier, I spent my time dancing, singing, and performing magic, rather than being a company commander or an officer. My sync rate with the character was 0%!”

‘Cook Soldier’ is based on a popular webtoon of the same name and follows the daily life of a dedicated cook soldier who combatively prepares meals even in the most extreme situations. The series promises fun and emotion through a feast of special dishes created in unpredictable circumstances, moving beyond the typical military menu.

Lee Sang-yi added with a laugh, “At first, I was told it was a special appearance and would be over quickly. But once filming started, my scenes kept increasing, and I ended up staying until the very end. It really was ‘special’!”

He also expressed his affection for the role, saying, “I really like the character Hwang Seok-ho, which is why I was happy to attend this event. I was also grateful for the chance to promote the show on ‘Pinggyego’.”

Lee Sang-yi plays Captain Hwang Seok-ho, a company commander of the 4th company and a graduate of the Korea Military Academy. Describing the character, he said, “He’s someone who lives shamelessly for the sake of promotion,” adding that he’ll be able to showcase a variety of sides.

Meanwhile, ‘Cook Soldier’ will premiere on TVING on the 11th at 8:50 PM.
