Model and entertainer Lee Sora has finally opened up about why she stepped away from the modeling world.
In the May 24 episode of MBC’s variety show ‘Sora and Jinkyoung,’ first-generation supermodels Lee Sora and Hong Jinkyoung continued their daring challenge to hit the runways of Paris Fashion Week.
After their first audition, the duo treated themselves to a delicious meal with wine to soothe their nerves. But the excitement returned when they received a text message about a second opportunity during dinner!
This time, the two were auditioning for different brands. Hong Jinkyoung expressed her desperation, saying, “I really hope I get it,” and decided to put in extra effort the next day. Following advice from fellow model Han Hye Jin, who told them that “good skin is always an advantage,” the two even used face masks before heading to bed.
On their third day in Paris, Hong Jinkyoung prepared a healthy breakfast featuring seaweed (brought from Korea), nuts, fruit, and grilled asparagus. She shared her self-care secret, noting, “I always make sure to eat a proper breakfast.”
With a mix of excitement and nerves, the two headed to an open audition for a Korean brand participating in Paris Fashion Week.
Lee Sora faced an unexpected hurdle when the casting director asked her to change into an outfit that showed her silhouette better. Since she didn’t have a spare, she had to borrow clothes from the production staff. Despite the clothes being sweaty, Lee Sora joked, “It doesn’t matter if it’s sweaty. Actually, because they were damp, they clung to my body more, which actually helped!”
Despite her efforts, the second audition ended without a fitting, just like the first. As they left, Hong Jinkyoung shared a bittersweet laugh, saying, “I can’t believe I’m doing this again at my age. It’s fun and brings back so many memories. Usually, if they let you try on the clothes, there’s a high chance, but if not, it’s tough.”
While waiting for their third audition with only coffee for lunch to curb their appetites, Hong Jinkyoung spoke honestly about her obsession with weight. Lee Sora empathized, recalling a painful memory: “It wasn’t easy for me either. Once, during a group fashion show, a designer told me right to my face, ‘Why are you so fat?’ and told them to remove me from the show. I was so heartbroken that I cried the whole flight back.”
Lee Sora added, “Hearing something like that in your early 20s stays with you for life. I left the industry entirely because the idea of dieting was just terrible.” She expressed her admiration for Hong Jinkyoung, who still maintains a strict management routine.
The drama continued at the third audition. The casting director asked Lee Sora to walk in high heels, only for her to realize she had left them at the cafe! Thinking quickly, Lee Sora remembered the brand had done barefoot runways and decided to walk barefoot. The casting director was impressed and finally gave her a fitting opportunity.
Hong Jinkyoung also secured a fitting after showcasing her bold walking style. Unfazed by the cameras in a public space, she quickly changed her clothes to get ready. Standing 180cm tall, Hong Jinkyoung walked in staggering 20cm kill heels under the sharp gaze of the officials. Fans are now waiting to see if she successfully passed the audition!
