BTS completely took over Mexico City, filling not only the venue but the surrounding areas with fans.
On May 7, 9, and 10 (local time), BTS held ‘BTS WORLD TOUR ‘ARIRANG’ IN MEXICO CITY’ at Estadio GNP Seguros, meeting approximately 150,000 fans. This marked their first full-group solo concert in Mexico in about 10 years and 10 months since 2015, with all three shows selling out instantly.

The energy was overwhelming from the start. The stadium echoed with chants of BTS’s name and massive sing-alongs, while a huge crowd of fans who couldn’t secure tickets gathered outside. Local authorities estimated that over 35,000 fans gathered around the stadium on the second and third days alone, leading to temporary road closures.
The members were clearly amazed by the explosive local response. During the show, Suga mentioned, “I know there are many ARMYs outside right now,” and promised, “If there is a bigger venue in Mexico, let’s definitely meet there next time,” sparking wild cheers from the crowd.
The performances especially resonated with local fans by naturally incorporating Mexican culture. Dancers wearing traditional Lucha Libre masks appeared during the ‘Aliens’ stage, and V went viral on social media for enjoying a local snack, Banderilla, during the ‘IDOL’ performance.

‘Airplane pt.2′ was another highlight of the night. When the song, which includes the lyric “We goin’ from Mexico City,” was performed as an impromptu selection, the entire stadium erupted in a massive sing-along. The crowd’s excitement peaked the moment the city’s name was mentioned, leaving the members with beaming smiles.
Mexico’s hospitality for BTS began even before the concerts. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum officially invited BTS to the Presidential Palace just before the shows, where over 50,000 fans gathered at the plaza. The scene was filled with loud cheers, tears, and a collective sing-along of Arirang.

Local media also highlighted the “BTS phenomenon.” The LA Times noted that “it is rare for a boy band to become a matter of international diplomatic interest,” focusing on the official presidential invitation and the fandom’s passion that swept the city. The outlet reported that over 1 million people attempted to purchase tickets, and fans who couldn’t get in still flocked to the venue.
Meanwhile, BTS will continue their North American tour at Stanford Stadium in the U.S. on May 16, 17, and 19. Local infrastructure is already adjusting to the event, with the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) announcing special bus routes for the concerts.
