The trial regarding the home invasion and robbery case involving singer and actress Nana is continuing.
According to legal sources on May 12, the 1st Criminal Division of the Namyangju Branch of the Uijeongbu District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Guk-sik) is holding the fourth public trial for suspect A, who is charged with robbery and injury of Nana and her mother. The court stated that it plans to conduct witness examinations of the official who issued the injury medical certificates for Nana and her mother.
During the previous third hearing, Nana and her mother attended as witnesses. Although Nana expressed her desire not to attend because she did not want to face suspect A, she had no choice but to comply with the court’s witness summons. It is reported that upon facing suspect A in court, Nana, unable to overcome her devastation, burst out in anger, saying, “Is this fun? Look me straight in the eye.”
She also raised her voice in court, saying, “I believe I gave suspect A as many opportunities as possible in that situation and made the right choice, so I don’t understand why this trial is dragging on and why I have to endure such humiliation. I feel like I’m being victimized over and over again.” At the same time, she expressed a sense of pity for A, stating, “I entered the courtroom feeling angry, but as we went through the details of the case one by one, I started to feel sorry for them. I hope the sentence does not increase any further. I hope they stop here and reflect on their actions.”
According to the prosecution, suspect A is accused of breaking into Nana’s home in Guri, Gyeonggi-do, around 6 PM on November 15 last year while armed with a weapon, threatening Nana and her mother to steal money. Nana and her mother sustained injuries while overpowering suspect A and reporting the incident to the police.
Suspect A has denied most of the charges. During the first hearing on January 20, A claimed through a legal representative that the weapon found at the scene did not belong to them but was brought out by the victim (Nana) from her home. A further claimed, “I only entered thinking the house was empty to steal (items),” and added that they were “unilaterally beaten.”
Suspect A also sued Nana for attempted murder and special injury, claiming to have been injured while Nana and her mother were overpowering them. However, the police decided not to send the case for prosecution, stating that Nana’s actions constituted self-defense. Subsequently, Nana sued suspect A for false accusation.
The sentencing hearing is reportedly scheduled for June 4.
