NMIXX is making a comeback with their fifth mini album, ‘Heavy Serenade’.
Releasing on the 11th, the new album features six tracks: the title song ‘Heavy Serenade’, ‘Crescendo’ and ‘IDESERVEIT’ (with lyrics by LILY), ‘Different Girl’ and ‘Superior’ (with lyrics by BAE), and ‘LOUD’, written solely by LILY.
The title track ‘Heavy Serenade’, which is “NMIXX itself” from the title, is a song that conveys a deep, confident love. Singer-songwriter Hanroro wrote the lyrics, and the NMIXX members added dimension to the lyrical words with their exceptional vocals.
The song is in the MIXX POP genre, precisely mixing electronic music elements like trance, acid, and drum and bass into pop. It further strengthens the group’s musical identity, which has expanded and evolved since their debut, and showcases NMIXX’s wide musical spectrum.
NMIXX achieved a career high with the title track ‘Blue Valentine’ from their first full-length album released last October, sweeping the top spot on the Melon Top 100 and daily, weekly, and monthly charts, and winning 10 music show trophies. Turning the immense love received for ‘Blue Valentine’ into motivation rather than pressure, their new mini album finally unveils today (11th).
After ringing out an “autumn carol” to the world before the winter of 2025 on their musical voyage, NMIXX has reached an important turning point. Now, under the fluttering petals of spring 2026, they powerfully sing the romantic ‘Heavy Serenade’, filled with sincerity.
Q1. It’s been about seven months since your first full album ‘Blue Valentine’ in October 2025. How do you feel about this comeback?
BAE: As always, this is an album prepared with NMIXX’s own colors. Since it’s an album expressing “love,” it contains songs where you can feel many emotions. I’m so happy to have participated in this album with the members and everyone who helped!
JIWOO: Everyone worked really hard on this album, and I think it fits the warming season perfectly, so I believe NSWER will love it. Thank you for waiting for the new album, and I can’t wait to see you soon!
KYUJIN: We received so much love for ‘Blue Valentine’ that I was very excited throughout the preparation for this comeback. Seven months can feel short or long, but I worked really hard with the members to show a more grown version of ourselves. We tried to capture an even wider musical spectrum of NMIXX in this album.
Q2. Music fans have reacted enthusiastically, saying the album name is “NMIXX itself.” Please introduce the album and the title track. How is NMIXX’s ‘Heavy Serenade’ different from a typical ‘Serenade’? The modifier “Heavy” added to a song for a loved one is intriguing. What were your first impressions and the members’ reactions?
LILY: This album represents the “process of love” through the tracklist. In particular, the title track compares a “love so deep it’s heavy” to a serenade. While “heavy” can sometimes be seen as a negative emotion, we wanted to express that the heavier the love, the more important and uncontrollable it is. When I first heard ‘Heavy Serenade’, the melody was so beautiful, and I felt the song unfold like flowers blooming.
HAEWON: In terms of our world-view, this album is about NMIXX arriving at MIXXTOPIA, a world of nothingness where anything is possible, and wanting to make everything filled with love grow. Through ‘Heavy Serenade’, we convey a love filled with a heavy and solid heart. It’ll be a mysterious and fun piece of music that MIXXes electronic elements into pop. Hanroro wrote the lyrics alone, capturing sincere feelings lyrically. I think NMIXX’s ‘Heavy Serenade’ is more special because it’s full of confidence in the love we want to sing about. When I first heard it, I was full of anticipation because I thought many people could listen to it comfortably, and I felt happy thinking we could return the love we received through ‘Blue Valentine’.
BAE: ‘Heavy Serenade’ was a song where you could feel several seasons. It felt like a cool summer and also like a warm winter. I think this song captures the exact weight of emotion that NMIXX feels right now. Rather than just being fluttering and new, since we’ve seen each other for a long time and walked the same path, our relationship has become much deeper, firmer, and “heavier.” The same goes for NSWER! I can feel the confidence and trust we have in each other. I think we captured those emotions in this album and title track.
Q3. Following the success of ‘Blue Valentine’, which swept major domestic charts and enjoyed long-term popularity globally, this is your first comeback after reaching a career high. Was there any pressure? ‘Blue Valentine’ was called an “autumn carol,” so if you could give ‘Heavy Serenade’ its own nickname, what would it be?
SULLYOON: It would be a lie to say there was no pressure. However, that pressure served as great motivation for us to prepare even harder for this comeback. ‘Heavy Serenade’ is a song so full of love that it would fit perfectly at a wedding. So, I think a nickname related to wedding songs would be great.
BAE: I want to keep doing things the way NMIXX has always done. I trust our team! I believe we’ve come this far because I’ve always trusted them. That’s why I prepared this album with the goal of “let’s deliver good music that contains our colors.” A nickname for ‘Heavy Serenade’? Hmm… a cool summer? Or a warm winter!
HAEWON: I tried to use that “good pressure” to create a more complete result. I believe ‘Heavy Serenade’ is a song that can deeply understand love, regardless of who or what that love is for, as long as you loved, love, and will love.
Q4. Singer-songwriter Hanroro wrote the lyrics for ‘Heavy Serenade’ alone. Listeners are excited about the meeting of these two hot artists. How was the collaboration? Is there a specific line from the lyrics that touched you the most?
BAE: The lyrics are overall beautiful and like a poem. It feels as if the scent of flowers is coming from the lyrics. If I had to pick one line, I like the part, “Then I realize every flower language is you.” I think it’s a lyric that goes well with the bridge melody.
SULLYOON: When I first received the lyrics, I was surprised by how pretty they were, and I was surprised again when I heard Hanroro wrote them. It’s an honor to work with Hanroro, and I’m very grateful for the gift of such beautiful lyrics. The lines in the pre-chorus of the first and second verses, “Even if winter comes after spring, my heart will bloom again, even if I leave Earth, my heart will bloom again,” stayed with me the most.
HAEWON: I’ve always liked Hanroro’s work, so I was very happy to hear they were participating in our song. I felt confident that combining Hanroro’s unique sensibility with NMIXX’s voices would reach the public more deeply. I found the part “Break me and make me into a one and only bouquet” impressive. The idea that someone fragile and sharp like glass can become a beautiful bouquet if it contains love for you fits perfectly with the heart we want to convey through ‘Heavy Serenade’.
Q5. With the record-breaking success of ‘Blue Valentine’, your musicality based on the skills you’ve steadily maintained since debut is truly shining. Is there anything NMIXX wanted to develop musically or show in a new way while working on this album? Also, please introduce a musical charm point of NMIXX that you hope more people notice.
LILY: Once again, the members participated in writing the lyrics to express our emotions more directly. Also, in the first track ‘Crescendo’, we tried a challenging choreography to show a new side of ourselves. A point I hope you notice this time is the falsetto vocals of the members in ‘Heavy Serenade’. It’s a very high and difficult part, but I think it came out so beautifully!
SULLYOON: We prepared songs with various vibes again. We worked hard so that you could listen and feel them naturally, even though they are new. I think our songs become more addictive the more you listen to them, and many of them show their true value when you watch the performances live. I hope you notice these musical charm points of NMIXX.
HAEWON: I really hope many people realize that NMIXX’s voices are like chameleons that blend well with any genre. I’m always shouting this…! (laughs)
Q6. Recently, you gained a lot of attention for your solid live performances at huge South American music festivals like the Sao Paulo Carnival in Brazil and the Vina del Mar Festival in Chile. How did it feel to perform in front of tens or hundreds of thousands of people, and are there any memorable episodes? How did the South American experience affect your performances, and is there any activity you really want to try in the future?
KYUJIN: Both stages felt like a dream. Especially at the Vina del Mar Festival, we went on stage around 2 or 3 AM, and I felt a huge thrill seeing so many people waiting and chanting our names until that late hour. Receiving that energy, I didn’t feel tired at all while performing a setlist of over 15 songs; instead, I felt energized. At the Sao Paulo Carnival, it was a special memory to perform our songs in Spanish versions and show the stage for ‘TIC TIC (Feat. Pabllo Vittar)’ for the first time, collaborating with local artist Pabllo Vittar. I think our performances became bolder through the experience of becoming one through music despite the language barrier. Based on these precious experiences, I want to show our own colors not only on a South American tour but on wider stages all over the world. If given the chance, I’d like to have deeper musical exchanges with local artists!
JIWOO: Like Kyujin said, I was so happy and glad to be able to show NMIXX to so many audience members. It made me want to do more diverse festivals and stages in the future.
LILY: It was very fascinating to perform on top of a truck for the first time at the Sao Paulo Carnival. I thought it might be a bit scary, but it was safe, so it wasn’t scary at all. Pabllo taught me how to lead the crowd in Portuguese, which was a fun experience I’ll never forget. I found performing at various festivals so much fun, so I want to attend more festivals and meet fans in the future.
Q7. Your world tour < EPISODE 1: ZERO FRONTIER >, which started with a sold-out show at the Incheon Inspire Arena last November, received a hot response in Europe and North America. For idol groups, a “world tour” is a dream and a goal. How do you feel about conducting your first world tour? You’ll start the Asia tour in June, so please tell us your determination and what to look forward to.
KYUJIN: Since it was the first world tour I’ve dreamed of since debut, I felt overwhelming emotion at every stage. From the start at Inspire Arena to the hot energy from fans in Europe and North America, I’m realizing that NMIXX has become much firmer musically and performance-wise. In the Asia tour starting in June, I want to fully show the synergy we’ve built up. I’m especially looking forward to breathing closer with NSWER in each region and enjoying our stages together!
LILY: One of the things I wanted to do most after debuting was a world tour, so I’m so, so happy to achieve this dream and have many experiences traveling to various cities. It was also touching to see that there are so many people supporting NMIXX. I’m excited to see our NSWER in the upcoming Asia tour, and I’ll work hard to create a performance with no regrets.
JIWOO: In the remaining tour, I want to create more diverse and fun stages, and I thought I should manage my condition well for the fans who come to see us and for the members who create the stage together. Just as fans are looking forward to our performances, I’m also very excited about the remaining world tour schedule!
Q8. Is there any result or goal you want to achieve through this comeback? Lastly, please leave a word for NSWER who have been waiting for the new album.
KYUJIN: My biggest goal for this comeback is to prove that “NMIXX’s growth has no limits.” I hope this activity proves how much our musical spectrum has widened. Also, I really want to give the gift of 1st place on music shows and music charts to NSWER. I’ll do my best to receive a lot of interest and love during this promotion!
