Actress Oh Yeon-soo shared a heartwarming story about leading a savings circle (known as a ‘gye’) for five years to fund a trip to Europe.
On the 26th, a video titled “Group tour with strangers for 8 nights and 10 days using savings circle money with friends” was uploaded to Oh Yeon-soo’s YouTube channel.
The video captures Oh Yeon-soo’s journey through Europe. She shared the special behind-the-scenes story, saying, “Today is finally the day my five-year dream comes true. As the head of the savings circle, I’ve managed the funds for five years and saved a considerable amount. We even took a few short domestic trips while saving monthly via automatic transfer, and now we’re finally on our dream trip to Europe!”
She continued, “It all started five years ago when we said, ‘Let’s travel once the kids graduate high school and we’re finally free.’ Now, my two elementary school friends and I, who are truly free now, have come to Europe with the money we saved. Since we don’t have to pay extra now that we’re leaving, it feels like a free trip, so everyone loves it.” She added, “We thought traveling Europe on our own would be difficult, so we signed up for a group tour.”
Smiling brightly in front of the Eiffel Tower in France, Oh Yeon-soo expressed her satisfaction with traveling with old friends, sharing a quote: “They say if you want to be happy for 30 minutes, eat something delicious. If you want to be happy for 3 days, go on a trip. If you want to be happy for 3 weeks, buy something you want. If you want to be happy for 3 months, buy a house. And if you want to be happy for a lifetime, meet three good people.”
She also suggested, “If spending a large amount of money at once is burdensome, planning a trip like we did could be a great option. People around us are saying they want to start their own savings circles after hearing our story.”
Meanwhile, Oh Yeon-soo married fellow actor Son Ji-chang in 1998 and has two sons. Recently, her son entered the entertainment industry as a virtual idol producer.
