Voice actor Kim Sang-hyun is adding a special level of immersion to the world of ‘The Legendary Cook’. This series has already garnered huge attention as the comeback project for Park Ji-hoon, who previously drew 16.85 million viewers with the movie ‘The Man Who Lives with the King’.
In the TVING original ‘The Legendary Cook’, which premiered globally on the 11th, Kim Sang-hyun’s unique voice—reminiscent of game play—adds tension to the story of Private Kang Seong-jae (played by Park Ji-hoon).
The system ‘Guardian’, voiced by Kim Sang-hyun, is a special entity that only appears before Kang Seong-jae. The Guardian brings change to his military life by presenting various quests, missions, and rewards that Kang Seong-jae must complete to grow into a legendary cook.
The presence of the Guardian left a strong impression from the first two episodes through the chemistry between Kim Sang-hyun and Park Ji-hoon. Lines like “Warrior, the chef’s path tutorial has begun” were delivered in Kim Sang-hyun’s smooth yet powerful husky voice, blending perfectly with Park Ji-hoon’s acting as if he were seeing an actual quest window.
Since Kim Sang-hyun is well-known for the system narration in League of Legends, he is receiving praise for perfectly recreating that specific game sensibility with just his voice.
The production team of ‘The Legendary Cook’ stated, “From before filming, we put a lot of effort into finding a voice that would allow both Park Ji-hoon and the viewers to be fully immersed. Voice actor Kim Sang-hyun’s participation was a hidden card we saved until the end. It was kept a strict secret from the actors until just before the script reading.”
They further shared a behind-the-scenes detail: “To help Park Ji-hoon naturally embody the character of Kang Seong-jae, we used separate recordings provided by Kim Sang-hyun and played them in real-time on set during filming.”
The Guardian is expected to continue leading the plot by throwing various variables into Kang Seong-jae’s military life. Fans are looking forward to the Guardian’s activities, creating tension with system-like speech while providing laughs with unexpected jokes.
