Park Ji Hyun revealed the behind-the-scenes effort of tanning and building abs to fully transform into a 90s idol.

Starring in the movie Wild Thing (Director Son Jae Gon), Park Ji Hyun shared her excitement for the upcoming release during an interview on May 26 in Jongno-gu, Seoul.

Opening on June 3, Wild Thing is a comedy about ‘Triangle,’ a three-member co-ed dance group that once dominated the music scene but disbanded overnight after an unexpected incident. Now, 20 years later, they are making a reckless attempt to seize a chance for a comeback.

Gang Dong Won, Um Tae Goo, and Park Ji Hyun team up as ‘Triangle,’ promising fantastic chemistry in a vibe reminiscent of SSAK3 and the All Day Project.

Gang Dong Won leads the team as ‘Hyun Woo,’ the dance machine and leader of ‘Triangle’ who boasts an unrivaled aura and manhwa-like visuals. Um Tae Goo plays ‘Sang Goo,’ the youngest member and a rapper with bold swag. Meanwhile, the trending actress Park Ji Hyun takes on the role of ‘Domi,’ radiating refreshing energy and absolute charm for some unpredictable chemistry.

Adding to the cast, the legendary character-actor Oh Jung Se plays ‘Sung Gon,’ a perennial second-place balladeer and self-proclaimed ‘ear-boyfriend’.

Park Ji Hyun’s visual transformation, which looks like it was lifted straight from a first-generation 90s idol, is already creating a buzz.

During the interview, Park Ji Hyun opened up, saying, “The costume team, makeup team, and director gave me so many great ideas. I barely had to come up with any myself.”

With Gang Dong Won’s bob cut causing quite a stir, Park Ji Hyun recalled, “I had a costume meeting before the script reading, and that’s when I first saw the members’ transformations. I found my own look shocking too, but I was sure it would be funny.” She added, “It’s not forced comedy; we just tried to recreate that era, and I was certain it would be even more entertaining because it was with seniors Gang Dong Won, Um Tae Goo, and Oh Jung Se.”

To highlight Domi’s healthy charm, she went through tanning and built abs. Park Ji Hyun explained, “Tanning was a new transformation for me, and I thought it suited me quite well. I think it served as a point to differentiate Domi in her 20s from Domi in her 30s.” She continued, “Since Domi is a free-spirited, honest, and easygoing ‘cool girl’ character, I wanted to showcase that freedom through the tan.”

When asked if she naturally had abs, she whispered, “I worked hard to make them,” before jokingly adding, “They’re gone now.”

Having previously mentioned Lee Hyori as her role model for this image change, she shared, “Lee Hyori sunbaenim had an innocent concept during her Fin.K.L days but switched to a sexy concept as a soloist. Triangle was innocent during their first album and transforms for the second. I tried to reference that transition.”

The movie opens on June 3.
