The humorous B-grade direction of ‘Cooking Soldier’ is completely capturing the hearts of viewers.

In the second episode of the TVING original ‘Cooking Soldier’, released on May 12, we got a glimpse into the chaotic and mischievous daily life of Kang Seong-jae (played by Park Jihoon) as a cooking soldier.

In the episode, Kang Seong-jae used a game-like status window to remove the smell of old rice with vinegar and successfully performed “taste CPR” on an overly salty bean sprout soup by adding water and Cheongyang chili peppers.

The scenes where characters imagined their reactions to the delicious bean sprout soup were portrayed with a quirky B-grade sensibility, sparking plenty of laughs.

Eternal Master Sergeant Park Jae-young (Yoon Kyung-ho) caused bursts of laughter by fighting an imaginary battle while wearing a trench coat and wielding dual pistols. Meanwhile, Corporal Kim Kwan-cheol (Kang Ha-kyung) showed a surprising twist by snatching the entire tray and inhaling the soup after one taste.

In particular, the scene where soldiers roam the battlefield with guns made of bean sprouts captured attention by bringing the unique, absurd atmosphere of the original webtoon to life.

Immediately after the broadcast, viewers reacted enthusiastically, saying, “It’s more fun because it doesn’t hold back and goes full chaos,” “I didn’t know they’d film a battle scene with food ingredients,” “I can practically see the atmosphere on set,” and “It’s a ‘brain-off drama’ (a drama you can watch without thinking).” Some even commented that it feels like a military version of the tvN drama ‘Tyrant’s Chef’.

Based on the popular webtoon of the same name, ‘Cooking Soldier’ is a military cooking fantasy drama that follows Private Kang Seong-jae, who wears an apron instead of a bandolier and holds a kitchen knife instead of a gun, as he transforms into a “legendary cooking soldier.”
