Park Sung-woong Struggles with Both Kids and Cabbages in 'Simu-myeon Yeonri-ri':

Park Sung-woong, who is giving a passionate performance in ‘Simu-myeon Yeonri-ri’, is bringing laughter and empathy to viewers with his portrayal of a realistic ‘K-head of household’.

Airing every Thursday at 9:50 PM, the KBS 2TV mini-series ‘Simu-myeon Yeonri-ri’ (Directed by Choi Yeon-soo / Written by Song Jung-rim and Wang Hye-ji / Produced by Sim Story) is capturing hearts with the chaotic farming journey of city family member Seong Tae-hoon (played by Park Sung-woong), who moves to the “clean yet fierce” area of Yeonri-ri.

Park Sung-woong takes on the role of the protagonist Seong Tae-hoon, realistically depicting the weight of being the breadwinner responsible for his family’s livelihood. His memorable lines, which mirror the bittersweet reality of Seong Tae-hoon, such as “Giving up is only for counting cabbages,” “I don’t mind suffering, but my family can’t. I will endure no matter what to go back,” and “Both work and my children are so difficult,” leave a strong impression, oscillating between humor and heartbreak.

After being demoted from the ‘Mat Story’ headquarters where he spent his entire career to Yeonri-ri, Seong Tae-hoon dove into cabbage farming to secure his return to Seoul, but reality was harsh. From the runaway antics of his second son Seong Ji-sang (played by Seo Yoon-hyuk) and youngest son Seong Ji-gu (played by Yang Woo-hyuk) to the eldest son Seong Ji-cheon’s (played by Lee Jin-woo) withdrawal from medical school, “raising children” didn’t go as planned either. Eventually, conflict arose when his wife found out he tried to hide Ji-cheon’s dropout, and his daily life became even more treacherous when his carefully tended cabbage field was damaged.

Despite this “K-breadwinner’s ordeal,” Seong Tae-hoon showed his unwavering responsibility toward his family, declaring, “Dad never gives up!” and “Giving up is only for when I grow those cabbages well and send them to the company; there is absolutely no such word as giving up in Seong Tae-hoon’s life!” He also showed touching fatherly love by understanding the pain of his son Seong Ji-cheon, who gave up medical school due to trauma from a medical accident, offering sincere comfort. His words, “You must have suffered a lot. I thought you were okay because you always grew up so well on your own,” resonated deeply with viewers.

Meanwhile, in the 7th episode, Seong Tae-hoon began to harbor doubts about ‘Mat Story’. Tension rose as evidence emerged that Director Choi (played by Min Sung-wook) manipulated the results of the cabbage seedling inspection, and the identity of the fake field manager Noh Hyun-gap (played by Jung Sun-chul) was partially revealed. Additionally, Seong Tae-hoon showed complex emotions after receiving a new project proposal from Managing Director Bae (played by Bae Ki-bum). With Managing Director Bae’s true intentions unknown, fans are curious to see what choice Seong Tae-hoon will make to protect his family in the next episode.

Episode 8 of the KBS 2TV mini-series ‘Simu-myeon Yeonri-ri’ will air on May 14 at 9:50 PM.
