Praise for the Bully, Silence for the Victim? Dr. Oh Reveals What's Missing in 'My Golden Kids' Discipline

A mother raising two sons, aged 10 and 12, appears in the studio. The younger son, known as the Golden Kid, was once fearless with great athletic skills as a child. However, a heartbreaking story is revealed as he now suffers from extreme fear and anxiety, even biting his fingernails and toenails severely. The studio is left curious by the contrast of the mother’s indifferent reaction to cursing and violence.

In the footage, the Golden Kid is seen cursing in front of his mother. Following this, the mother’s coercive discipline leaves the child feeling intimidated and shrunk. Once alone in his room, the Golden Kid exhibits vocal tics and bites his nails and toenails for over 30 minutes. The studio is shocked by his abnormal behavior and the severe state of his toenails, leading Dr. Oh to warn that nail-biting is a symptom of ‘this’.

Later, the brothers are seen watching TV together. While the eldest son goes to his room at the agreed bedtime, the Golden Kid secretly plays games on his phone. Sensing something is wrong, the mother enters, confiscates the phone, and begins harsh discipline. The tension rises as she creates a threatening atmosphere by pointing out his repeated mistakes, leaving the terrified Golden Kid unable to speak and only blinking his eyes.

During a game of Jenga, the older brother hurls severe insults at the Golden Kid for accidentally knocking over the tower. Despite the Golden Kid calling for help, the mother remains silent and instead praises the older brother, focusing on his emotions. Dr. Oh sharply criticizes the mother’s attitude of ignoring the bullying as “discrimination” and plans to analyze how to discipline siblings fairly.

Can the wounded relationship between mother and son be healed? Find out this Friday at 9 PM on Channel A’s ‘My Golden Kids’.
