Roy Kim Feels the Power of Masterpieces, Says He’s Grown as a Musician

Singer-songwriter Roy Kim has experienced the true power of legendary songs ahead of the release of his new remake album.

Roy Kim will release his remake album, ‘다시 불러 봄 – Bloom Again’, on May 20 at 6 PM across various online music platforms.

The album features six iconic songs that represent their eras, including ‘앵콜요청금지’, ‘스물다섯, 스물하나’, ‘Smile Boy’, ‘왜 그래’, ‘한 사람을 위한 마음’, and ‘바람의 노래’.

Reinterpreting such famous originals with his own sensibility was no easy task. Roy Kim shared, “The hardest part was finding the answer to whether listeners could enjoy Roy Kim’s own sensibility without it feeling out of place, while still preserving the atmosphere of the original songs. I tried to pour all those reflections into the arrangement and vocals. I’m excited and curious to see how the public will receive them.”

This journey has helped Roy Kim mature further. He stated, “While analyzing the melodies and lyrics one by one for the arrangement, I felt once again that a masterpiece is truly a masterpiece. I gained a deep understanding of the points that shouldn’t be missed when writing a song and how to express emotions. It wasn’t an easy process, but I feel I’ve grown a step further as a musician.”

Roy Kim added, “I feel relieved to have finished a project I’ve pondered over for a long time, but I also feel a great sense of responsibility not to let down the senior artists who wrote the original songs. I promised to do my best and repay them with a great result, and I hope that promise is delivered without any embarrassment.” Regarding future plans, he mentioned, “I definitely have the desire to continue this remake project as a series, but for now, I want to focus on this album. I’ll leave the next series as another challenge for my future self.”
