The ENA Monday-Tuesday drama ‘Scarecrow’ (Written by Lee Ji-hyun, Directed by Park Jun-woo) hit a new personal best with an average viewership of 6.3% and a peak of 7.0% in the latest episode aired on May 4.
It is making history! The average viewership for the first five episodes has set a new record as the number one ENA drama of all time. It also topped all channels in the 2049 target demographic with a peak of 2.5%.
In the latest episode, Lee Ki-beom (played by Song Geon-hee) was pointed out as a prime suspect in the Gangseong serial murder case.
However, Kang Tae-joo (played by Park Hae-joo) was not convinced that Lee Ki-beom was the culprit. He found two pieces of evidence that told completely different stories: a photo proving Lee Ki-beom’s alibi during the third crime, and the handbag of survivor Park Ae-sook (played by Hwang Eun-hoo) found at Gangseong Bookstore. Amidst the confusion, Kang Tae-joo shifted his suspicion toward Lee Ki-hwan.
Just as things got intense, another murder occurred. A young girl was strangled to death in her own home while everyone was asleep. As residents voiced their frustration over the ongoing killings, the police headquarters reassigned the chief and team leaders of the Gangseong Police Station to hold them accountable for the investigation.
Kang Tae-joo initially believed this new crime was a separate incident unrelated to the serial murders, noting differences in the method and the victim’s age. However, his theory was challenged when Lee Ki-beom was spotted near the victim’s house around the estimated time of the crime.
Ultimately, a search warrant was issued for Lee Ki-beom. The search turned up critical evidence at both his home and the bookstore. The first clue found at home was a photo of Kang Tae-joo and Lee Ki-beom together.
The photo was taken on the day the third victim, Choi In-sook, disappeared, serving as proof of Lee Ki-beom’s alibi. Meanwhile, the second clue found at the bookstore was the handbag lost by survivor Park Ae-sook, which pointed directly to Lee Ki-beom as the culprit.
It was also revealed that while fleeing at night, Lee Ki-beom was captured by detectives Jang Myeong-do and Do Hyung-gu (played by Kim Eun-woo) and was forced to give a false confession through confinement and violence. Fans are now eagerly waiting for the appearance of Im Seok-man (played by Baek Seung-hwan), a friend who witnessed Lee Ki-beom’s final moments.
‘Scarecrow’ airs today (May 5) at 10 PM.
