Singer Seong-ri has officially claimed the title of the first winner of ‘Unnamed Legend,’ marking the start of a new era after overcoming the struggles of being an unknown artist.
In the final episode of MBN’s ‘Unnamed Legend’ aired on the 13th, the second round of the finals, the ‘Life’s Masterpiece Mission,’ took place. On this day, where the final winner was decided by a song that represents their life, Seong-ri captured everyone’s attention by appearing in a pure white outfit, looking every bit like a prince. For his life song, he chose ‘Aega’ (originally by Shin Yu) as a song of longing for his mother, delivering it with a delicate voice and deep resonance.
A video shown before the finals depicted Seong-ri enjoying a meal out with his mother. Recalling his difficult past, Seong-ri shared, “My goal as a child was to treat my family to a meal. I feel like I’m finally doing it now, so it feels very late.” He also tearfully shared a heartbreaking story, saying, “My mom went out to buy strawberries and said she’d be right back, but she didn’t return for several days, which is when I realized the divorce had happened.”
Seong-ri expressed his determination for the finals, stating, “I believe I am who I am today because my mother sacrificed so much for me after my father passed away. The biggest reason I applied for ‘Unnamed Legend’ was my mother.” His sincerity shone brightly on stage.
After the performance, both participants and masters were in awe. Son Tae-jin praised Seong-ri’s stage, saying, “I think a true ‘hexagon artist’ has been completed with this performance.” He added, “Whenever I see Seong-ri’s stage, his gratitude for being able to perform seems to touch the hearts of the viewers. Seong-ri’s records were overwhelming. He took first place with a combined score of 1,984 points from the first and second rounds of the finals. He maintained his lead in the intermediate tally with 2,784 points, which included online cheering votes, hit song video views, and music streaming scores. Finally, he earned 2,000 points from the real-time text vote alone, more than double the score of the second-place finisher, claiming the trophy with a final total of 4,784 points.
After being named the winner, Seong-ri shared his thoughts: “I am so grateful. Since I first dreamed of becoming a singer, I think I faced more frustrations than expected. While challenging myself in numerous auditions, I realized how difficult and hard it was, and there was a time when I almost gave up on my dream while learning wallpapering. It feels so surreal and I’m so thankful that not giving up on my dream has led me to this dazzling day.”
