Harpist and singer-songwriter Shim So-jung is capturing hearts with an instrumental piece that pushes the auditory boundaries of the harp.
Shim So-jung has launched a new instrumental series called ‘Harp Dialogue’ and released the single ‘Velvet Sky’ on May 4th across various music platforms, featuring fingerstyle guitarist Jung Sung-ha.
The ‘Harp Dialogue’ series is a long-term project designed to preserve the unique charm of the harp while collaborating with various artists to capture diverse musical textures and rhythms in every piece. Having already attempted unique sonic departures beyond the label of “classical,” Shim So-jung is now developing a more robust musical world that blends mainstream appeal with artistic depth.
Kicking off the series, ‘Velvet Sky’ features the help of world-renowned fingerstyle guitarist Jung Sung-ha, who elevated the track’s quality. Jung Sung-ha’s signature warm and delicate guitar tones layer over Shim So-jung’s transparent harp melodies, creating a deeply lyrical and dreamy atmosphere. The fluid ensemble between the two instruments offers listeners a multi-dimensional and visual soundscape.
Through this series, Shim So-jung plans to go beyond simply releasing instrumental tracks and convincingly document the process of artists from different genres and sensibilities communicating through the language of music. Her goal is to present music that naturally blends into listeners’ daily lives, offering comfort and emotion.
Shim So-jung expressed her passion for the project, stating, “I want to expand the existing framework and boundaries of the harp through this series.” With a perfect harmony with Jung Sung-ha marking the official start of the series, anticipation is growing for Shim So-jung’s future musical journey.
