Actress Shin Ye Eun is gearing up for a new transformation as Yuk Ha Ri, a warm-hearted nurse with a hidden secret, in the upcoming series ‘Doctor Island Boy’.
ENA’s ‘Doctor Island Boy’ (directed by Lee Myung Woo, written by Kim Ji Soo, planned by KT Studio Genie, produced by The Studio M, based on the KakaoPage webtoon ‘Jonber Doctor’ by Kim Tae Poong) is set to premiere on Monday, June 1st. On the 12th, the production released the first still cuts of Shin Ye Eun as Yuk Ha Ri, who has returned to Pyeondongdo. The images range from a bright and lovely vibe to a look that suggests a hidden story, raising expectations.
‘Doctor Island Boy’ is a medical human romance featuring Do Ji (played by Lee Jae Wook), a public health doctor assigned to the notorious remote island of Pyeondongdo, and Yuk Ha Ri (played by Shin Ye Eun), a nurse with a secret. The story promises warm laughter and heart-fluttering moments as they live among the affectionate and eccentric island residents, healing people and learning about love.
The drama is based on the popular KakaoPage and Kakao Webtoon hit ‘Jonber Doctor’. Director Lee Myung Woo, known for ‘Boyhood’ and ‘The Fiery Priest’, is drawing attention for challenging the romance genre with his signature rhythmic directing and sense of humor. With writer Kim Ji Soo’s delicate writing, the quality is expected to be top-notch. In particular, the pairing of youth stars Lee Jae Wook and Shin Ye Eun is a major highlight.
In the released photos, Yuk Ha Ri catches the eye with a bright, sunny smile. Her nature as a “born-to-be nurse” who stays by her patients’ sides with a warm and attentive personality is naturally displayed. True to her character who cannot ignore someone in need, she is said to be quite meddlesome even outside the hospital.
Another photo sparks curiosity, capturing Yuk Ha Ri holding a bottle of alcohol during the day while staring at someone. It leaves fans wondering who she is looking at from her very first day back on Pyeondongdo. With an expression filled with complex emotions, interest is peaking regarding the hidden story behind why she suddenly left a university hospital to return to her hometown.
Regarding her reason for choosing the project, Shin Ye Eun shared, “The subject of a public health doctor felt fresh, and all the residents of Pyeondongdo seemed multi-dimensional and charming. I felt that the warm stories of healing each other would resonate with many people.”
Describing the character of Yuk Ha Ri, she explained, “She is a person who is soft yet strong, though she might seem meddlesome because she has so much love to give.” She expressed her affection for the role, adding, “I wanted to create a beloved character by blending my own traits with Ha Ri’s charms.”
She also revealed her sincerity toward the role, stating, “Since she is a character who needs various emotional changes even in short moments, I worked hard not to miss those emotional lines. To express the warmth and professionalism of actual nurses, I received consultations and referred to many related videos and personal accounts.”
Meanwhile, ENA’s new Monday-Tuesday drama ‘Doctor Island Boy’ will premiere on June 1st at 10 PM and will also be available on KT Genie TV and Disney+.
