Director Na Hong-jin’s new film ‘HOPE’, which has been invited to the Competition section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival, has finally released its international trailer!
The story kicks off in Hopohang, a village under attack by an unknown force. ‘Seong-ae’ (Jung Ho-yeon) emerges from a patrol car stopped in the middle of the road, while ‘Beom-seok’ (Hwang Jung-min) comes face-to-face with an unbelievable sight in front of a heavily destroyed shop.
The ‘HOPE’ trailer captures the desperate struggle of Hopohang village office head ‘Beom-seok’, local youth ‘Seong-gi’ (Jo In-sung), police officer ‘Seong-ae’, and other residents as they confront the entity that attacked their home to protect the village.
From unique car chases and intense gunfights to chases through the forest and a nail-biting horse action scene to evade alien attacks, the trailer is absolutely overwhelming with its bold direction, stunning visuals, and the actors’ dedicated performances.
This footage was first unveiled at ‘CinemaCon 2026’ in the US last April, where it received a scorching response. International industry insiders were impressed, with Kenzie from Offscreen Central calling it “unbelievably tense and intense,” Jeff Sneider from The InSneider describing it as a “welcome shock,” and Casey Loving from TheWrap noting that “the atmosphere on site changed in an instant” and calling it “truly impressive.”
‘HOPE’ tells the story of ‘Beom-seok’, the head of the Hopohang office located in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). After hearing reports of tigers appearing from the local youth, the entire village goes on high alert, only for them to encounter an unbelievable reality. The film is scheduled for release this summer.
