Singer Hong Ju has pointed to extreme stress as the cause of her Stage 3 ovarian cancer, despite having taken good care of her health.
On May 15, a video titled “War with Chemo_Seung-il Hong Ju” was uploaded to the channel ‘Sonyeon Jangsa_Baek Seung-il.’ The video captures the changed daily lives of the couple, Baek Seung-il and Hong Ju, following her second round of chemotherapy.
Having recently revealed her battle with Stage 3 ovarian cancer, Hong Ju confessed, “I’m going crazy. It’s so itchy. I just want to scratch it.” Baek Seung-il cautioned her, saying, “You can’t scratch it. It’ll only get worse and become inflamed.” The itching was caused by a heat rash that appeared after her second chemotherapy session.
Hong Ju shared, “(During the second chemo) I had such a high fever. I felt like I barely survived.” Baek Seung-il expressed his concern, noting, “That’s because the medication is that strong.” Hong Ju also mentioned experiencing numbness in her arms and legs, adding, “It continues. I heard it can last for over a year even after chemotherapy.”
Baek Seung-il remarked, “A person really changes.” His current daily routine includes taking their daughter to school, preparing breakfast and lunch for Hong Ju, and going for walks. He confessed, “I’m now doing the daily routine that mothers do. Housework is endless and often goes unnoticed. My wife used to say this, and I think the men of Korea need to realize this. I didn’t know before, but now that I’m doing it, I understand.”
Later, Baek Seung-il prepared eel for Hong Ju. Hong Ju smiled and said, “Chemo makes your mouth taste really bitter. I’ve always been someone who loves eating, so I think that’s why I’m managing. I’m so grateful. I was born with a good appetite, so I’m eating well.” To this, Baek Seung-il pointed out, “You’re actually gaining weight now.”
Hong Ju explained, “People around me say I have to eat well to endure this. Because I’m scared, I eat frequently. Regardless of weight, I feel I must keep eating until I finish my sixth session.” Baek Seung-il noted, “(Hong Ju) took such good care of her health, yet this happened.” Hong Ju replied, “Extreme stress. I don’t know where it came from, but it was extreme stress.”
Meanwhile, Hong Ju married Baek Seung-il in 2012, and they have one daughter.
