Song Il-gook Makes a Movie Comeback Just One Month After Admitting “I’m Not Being Chosen”

Actor Song Il-gook is finally returning to the big screen after about 11 years!

According to film industry sources on the 10th, the movie ‘Lost Between’ (directed by Hwang Soo-young), starring Song Il-gook, will be unveiled for the first time through a preview screening at the Seoul Movie Center in Chungmuro, Seoul, on the 30th.

The film was selected for the 2025 Gwangju Film Production Support. It tells the story of Seong-beom, who visits his alma mater to get his middle school graduation certificate, only to discover that his records have vanished. He then begins tracking his own traces to piece together fragments of his past.

With this project, Song Il-gook will meet audiences for the first time in 11 years. After gaining massive popularity across TV and film in the 2000s, he didn’t film any movies or dramas for over a decade. His last film was ‘Tattoo’ in 2015, and his last drama was KBS1’s ‘Jang Young-sil’ in 2016. However, he has been appearing in one musical every year since 2022.

Previously, during a press call for the musical ‘The Hague’ on May 8, Song Il-gook spoke about his long hiatus from film and drama, saying, “It’s a profession where you have to be chosen, but I’m not being chosen.” On the 2024 tvN variety show ‘You Quiz on the Block,’ he also mentioned, “I didn’t do them because (offers) didn’t come in,” adding, “It’s probably because my ‘dad’ image is so strong due to ‘The Return of Superman.’ I don’t even get contacted for events anymore.”

Meanwhile, Song Il-gook is currently delivering a powerful performance as Lee Sang-seol, the leader of the special envoy mission, in ‘The Hague.’ Set in 1907, just before the darkness of the Japan-Korea Annexation Treaty, ‘The Hague’ is based on the ‘Hague Secret Envoy Mission’ sent to inform the world of Japan’s unfair aggression. The play adds a touch of imagination by depicting other envoys who helped Lee Sang-seol, re-examining their journey on the 120th anniversary of the mission.
