Pop star The Weeknd is heading back to Korea this October!
Hyundai Card announced on the 11th that “Hyundai Card Super Concert 28 The Weeknd” will take place on October 7 and 8 at 7:45 PM at the Goyang Stadium. This marks the third time a Super Concert has reached a massive scale of 100,000 attendees, following Coldplay in 2017 and Bruno Mars in 2023.
The star of this show, The Weeknd, is credited with bringing “Alternative R&B” — a blend of R&B, hip-hop, and electronic music — into the mainstream of popular music.
The Weeknd has been consistently breaking records in music streaming. In 2023, he became the first artist to surpass 100 million monthly listeners on the global streaming platform Spotify. His hit song “Blinding Lights” also entered the Guinness World Records after becoming the first song to exceed 5 billion streams on Spotify last August.
The Weeknd first gained fame with three mixtapes released in 2011. Both the public and critics raved over his unique musical style and unparalleled vocals. He later won the Grammy Award for “Best Urban Contemporary Album” for his works “Beauty Behind the Madness” and “Starboy”.
The 2019 release “Blinding Lights” catapulted him to global superstardom. It was the first single in Billboard history to remain in the Top 10 for an entire year, and in 2021, it was ranked #1 on the “All Time Hot 100” chart, which aggregates all-time chart performances.
His success continued with “After Hours” released in 2020 and “Dawn FM” in 2022, both of which topped Apple Music charts in over 100 countries. His most recent release, “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” also debuted at #1 on the Billboard album chart in its first week.
This Hyundai Card Super Concert is part of The Weeknd’s “After Hours til Dawn” stadium tour. Since July 2022, the tour has seen 153 performances and approximately 7.5 million attendees, maintaining a level of success that is among the highest for any male solo artist.
This will be The Weeknd’s second time performing for Korean fans. While his 2018 appearance via the “Hyundai Card Culture Project” showcased his reinterpretation of the R&B genre, this time he returns as a global icon shaking up the pop market with his own original and trendy musical world. Additionally, the popular Japanese hip-hop duo Creepy Nuts will take the opening stage to heat up the atmosphere!
A representative from Hyundai Card stated, “This will be a precious opportunity to experience a performance of a completely different scale and significance, featuring The Weeknd, the most influential pop star of the 21st century, at the peak of his career.”
