TWICE’s Jeongyeon shared a heartwarming story about her older sister, actress Gong Seungyeon, expressing her gratitude.
The May 13 broadcast of tvN’s variety show ‘You Quiz on the Block’ (affectionately known as ‘You Quiz’) ended with an exciting preview of Gong Seungyeon’s upcoming guest appearance on episode 343.
Gong Seungyeon, who is enjoying a career resurgence after 15 years as the ’21st Century Grand Princess’ and is now set to appear on ‘You Quiz,’ couldn’t help but boast! She shared, “I told my younger sister, ‘I’m going on ‘You Quiz’!’ Jeongyeon’s response? ‘TWICE hasn’t even been on yet!'”
As the eldest of three sisters, Gong Seungyeon didn’t exactly deny it when host Yoo Jae-suk mentioned, “I heard you really kept your two younger sisters in line.” She even confessed, “I remember hitting them with a phone.” Apparently, there were times she even thought, ‘If I go there, I’ll kill them!’ towards her siblings.
Gong Seungyeon, who trained for seven years at SM Entertainment, looked back on her past, sharing, “After leaving the company without debuting, I felt so anxious and lost. I’m not sure if my mom remembers, but she used to say, ‘It would be wonderful if the eldest succeeds and helps the second and third sisters along.'”
Gong Seungyeon was visibly surprised when a surprise letter from her younger sister, Jeongyeon, was revealed. Jeongyeon candidly shared, “It was a period when I was mentally struggling, and my older sister held my hand and took me to the hospital.” This touching, never-before-heard story about the sisters will be fully unveiled next week on ‘You Quiz’!
Meanwhile, Jeongyeon faced significant health challenges. In 2020, she was diagnosed with a herniated disc, and during her treatment, experienced rapid weight gain due to ‘Cushing’s Syndrome,’ a side effect of steroid medication. Compounding these issues, she also struggled with panic disorder and anxiety disorder, leading her to halt her activities. While Jeongyeon bravely resumed her schedule in June 2021, she unfortunately had to pause again just two months later, in August 2021, due to recurring psychological anxiety and panic disorder symptoms.
Jeongyeon previously appeared on the channel ‘Gamyeolsa’ and shared a personal detail: “When I was on hiatus from activities due to panic disorder, I helped out with a part-time job at a cafe. I worked from 6 AM until 4 PM.”
