Two suspects involved in the death of film director Kim Chang-min have been detained and sent to trial.
On the 21st, the Namyangju Branch of the Uijeongbu District Prosecutors’ Office indicted two individuals, Lee (32) and Lim (32), on charges of murder and violating the Act on Welfare of Persons with Disabilities.
The suspects are accused of beating Director Kim to death during a dispute over noise at a restaurant in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, last October. They are also charged with emotional abuse for assaulting Director Kim in front of his son, who has a developmental disability.
While the case was initially referred on charges of “injury resulting in death,” prosecutors upgraded the charge to “murder” following a supplementary investigation, concluding that the suspects could have foreseen Director Kim’s death during the assault.
After the attack, Director Kim lost consciousness and was rushed to the hospital. He was declared brain-dead 17 days later and passed away after donating his organs to four people.
