“Who found that?”
Even in a short clip, you can feel the signature tension of Director Na Hong-jin. We are talking about the movie ‘HOPE’.
The teaser for ‘HOPE’ was uploaded to the Cannes Film Festival website on May 10 (KST). This marks the first time the film has been revealed in video format rather than just still cuts.
The video is about 1 minute and 30 seconds long. It begins with Beom-seok (played by Hwang Jung-min), the head of the Hopo Port branch office, and Seong-gi (played by Jo In-sung), a local youth, stepping out of a car.
The two focus on “that thing” found dead in the middle of the road. While it is presumed to be a tiger based on the story, only its silhouette is visible.

Beom-seok is also seen in a confrontation with another village youth over a long gun, telling them, “Come to the office later. Bring this gun.”
The original score playing at the end of the video heightens the atmosphere of horror. American composer Michael Abels is responsible for the overall music in ‘HOPE’.
‘HOPE’ tells the story of a Hopo Port branch head who hears news of a tiger’s appearance from local youths and subsequently faces an unbelievable reality.
The film has been invited to the competition section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival. It is the first Korean film in about four years to challenge for the highest honor, the Palme d’Or. The first screening will take place on the 18th.
Director Na Hong-jin, along with Hwang Jung-min, Jo In-sung, Jung Ho-yeon, Michael Fassbender, and Alicia Vikander, will attend the event and walk the red carpet.
Meanwhile, ‘HOPE’ is scheduled to be released in Korea this summer.
